What are we paying are cops to do?

ive been pulled over at least a dozen time because cops are bored and think that im a punk because i have skateboarding company's stickers on my back window of my suv. but then again im in a lil town its not like nething big goes on so they get bored and pull teens over. pisses me off but o well karma sucks is all i have to say

Like I said before, I cant wait till they make a remote that will fry the radio of the person next to you when they decide that their radio has to be soo loud it thumps me in the car, home, office.

The house was already broken into. They weren't there to prevent it, they were investigating.
The cop witnessed you break the law. Running a stop sign is illegal. He was merely warning you for your own benifit.
I'm not a big fan of the police and I understand your anger, but they were doing their job.
I was pulled over for not having a tag on the front of my Prelude. It was a Saturday afternoon of the race weekend here in Ft Worth (we have a rather high crime and murder rate here). I angerly asked her if this really was a priority for a traffic stop. She did a good job of diffusing the situation, but politly informed me that the law is the law. You know, "business is business". I didn't receive a ticket.
Ironically (speaking of the second ammendment), we were coming back from the range with a Glock, Beretta, Kel-Tec and Bushmaster in the trunk.
That's why my wife was telling me to shut-up when I was arguing with the cop.

Are they pulling you over because "they think your a punk" or because you are acting like one. I can tell you from first hand experience that most people probably think I look like a punk. I'm coverred in tattoo's have surfing/skating stickers on my lifted truck and I never get harrased by the police unless I'm doing something I shouldn't be. Most of the time they have better things to do than pull you over for no reason. Now that's not to say that some of them don't do it just to be pricks, but even back when I was in HS and I was getting "harassed" looking back I probably deserved it.

I was a senior in High School. I was in my buddy's car and someone backed up into us. The following day we went to get parts to replace the tail light that was broken. While we were going to get parts, there was a older woman riding a bicycle in the middle of our travel path. We had to slow down and she finally pulled over so we could go around her. The next corner was the auto shop. My buddy put his directional on and took the corner. This woman passed us on our right side. Now here I was sitting in the passangers seat. This was like something you saw in a movie. I watched the bicycle go under our car and she went airborn onto the pavement. The police, ambulance, and a news reported showed up. My buddy was freaking out because of what happened. The officer came over asked what happened. Turned out she was at fault for passing on the right side. Later that week we looking in the news paper and it announced the accident. Turned out she was 67 years old. Thank god she lived.

actually im not. i drive the speed limit i dont do nething stupid. the cops i georgetown hate skaters and pull all of us over for the dumbest stuff ever. so it aggravates me but its not that big of a deal to me.

I get a kick out of the whole notion of "I didn't know, and its a stupid law anyway" so to enforce it is rediculous.
If im coming up on a green light in my car i sure as heck aint slowing down for some cyclist who doesnt think he hasta stop.
i dont really agree with all the advantages bikes get. Especially if theres a sidewalk they could be on. They dont pay the car tax or property tax like car owners do but yet we hafta give all kinds of provisions.
thats just the "other sides" perspective.

In some cities, byciclists cannot ride on the sidewalks. It's a law that they have to stay on the road.

I guarantee that you are not getting pulled over because they think you are a punk. Any cop that values his job knows he can only stop you for a legal reason (any infraction will do). The fact that you may be or act like a punk is secondary. Ok, you may think that most of the infractions are silly but the legislation was passed for a reason.
As far as better things to do.... the number one complaint on a daily basis received by police agencies from citizens is not homicides, not burglaries, not domestic violence, not rapists nor serial killers.... its bad driving (speeding, running stop signs and stop lights, aggressive driving, DUI's and general stupidity behind the wheel). We respond to those complaints, its what we do.

my husband get paid for doing his job. and one that puts him in danger everyday. He does it to protect our city, and suport his family. the simplest trafic stop could end his life. not only does he have to worry about the person he just pulled over, but also the cars that are passing him as he is standing on the side of the road that do not get over or slow down. think about it. They are not bored. I can tell you that. everyday he sees things most of you will never see in your life times. the family of 5 that just got wiped because a drunk driver hit them head on, and the drunk lives. (true)
the motor cycle driver that just got his head ran over, and there is nothing left. (true)

The one guy had gotten a DUI when the bars closed Friday night (2 AM Saturday Morning) so Sunday he wasn't going to take any chances so he rode his bike to the bar and got nailed on the way home.
Anyway both were charged with operating a bicycle under the influence. As much trouble as skateboarders have caused in some places I wouldn't be all that surprised if there aren't laws on the books allowing a skater to be charged with skating while drunk. I remember seeing a deal about a woman being charged with DUI for riding her horse drunk in Alabama I think it was.
