ORC Section 4511.01(A) - Defines "vehicles" to include "bicycles." This very important statute has the impact of making all laws restricting the behavior of "vehicle operators" applicable to cyclists. By defining "vehicles" to include bikes, the legislature has indicated its approval of bikes as transportation devices with a place on the roadway. This definition means that virtually every traffic law, including speeding, drunk driving, traffic control device rules, reckless operation, passing rules and the like, apply to motorists and cyclists alike. Cyclists are required to ride in the proper lane, are not permitted to ride "against traffic" and, generally, must act like any other vehicle on the roadway.

Isnt it funny how some that get tickets for a law that they broke but were uneducated about, complain that its either a stupid law or "why are the cops busting me when there is so much other crime out there." If anyone gets offended because you feel that the people are on here being stereotypical of you or whatever, ask yourself if you fit that category. If you dont, then it didnt pertain to you. There are millions of people that cannot stand people who blast their music so loud that it interferes with their own comfort zone. I cant wait till those people go deaf. That way I can make money off of them by selling them hearing aids.

it should be common knowledge that you have to follow the traffic laws, even on a bike. so if I were this cop and you ran a stop sign right in front of me, my first thought would've been, "wow, this guy is such a moron that I HAVE to pull him over."

I have no problem with the police stopping and ticketing people who break the laws of the road. The problem I do have are with the hypocritical cops who break the same laws they are supposed to be protecting. I can't count the number of times where I've been driving down the highway, and a cop blows by me doing 90 in a 65. I'm thinkin "OK, guess he has an emergency call." Next thing I see is the same cop pulling off the highway, and turning into a Taco bell to meet his parther for lunch. Just last week, I was driving behind a cop, and he changed lanes at least three time without using a signal. All of a sudden, a car in front of him changed lanes without using a signal, and WHOOP, on came the lights and siren to pull him over. But can you report a cop for breaking the driving laws? NOOOO. Ther's no judge out there that would take that case.

Yes you can, note the squad car #, time and place, and call the sheriff's office. If it's something like not using a signal they'll probably blow you off, but something more serious like using their sirens to unnessacary run red lights they'll probably hear you out.
What grinds my gears about all this at the end of the month, especially here in Orange County, they love to set up speed traps and nail you with everything they can find, just to meet a stupid quota. Usually it's a 4 lane divided road with a retardedly low limit. I got nailed once for 45mph in 30, and he give a no seatbeat and was almost going to give me another for not registering my license for being up at school.

Once at radioshack I was holding a laptop in the box, when it was ripped out of my hand by some guy and he ran out the door. So I ran out after him. and wrote down his plate number. Which I gave the police. They came back said it was fake plates. So I told him well those were the plates on his car. Which he blew off as me being stupid. Of course they never found him.
Another time, we were at our storage shed at about 2 in the morning in the "bad" part of little ol huntsville tx. When we head shouting then a 9 mm or .22 go off about 7 times rapidly Then no noise, so we call the cops. 15 minutes later they show up don't even talk to us shine their light around for about 2 minutes and leave. We were literally 3 minutes from the police station in town. We could have walked there quicker than they showed up. So yeah we pay em for something.
I wish I was a cop, I'd love to pull over all these nuts in houston driving like maniacs and write them huge tickets.

just becasue your old and in bed at 9, doesnt mean the rest of the world has to succumb to you.
And with a loud stereo and driving down the road it is difficult to hear emergency vehicles coming your way, warning honks from other drivers, your wheel bearing about to give out or engine about to throw a rod...loud music laws are not just to keep neighborhoods peaceful, they are to keep you and those around you safe.

if you're old enough to go in the road, you're old enough to follow the rules of the road. end of discussion.

Actually, I did. At least the basic stuff, like stopping at stop signs and red lights and such. My parents made sure that I knew them if I was going to be riding my bike around the neighborhood.

You're right about most of this point. Cops do get professional courtesy when it comes to law breaking. I know a few cops that have been pulled over when they were driving drunk (off duty of course). No ticket, no breathalyzer, nothing. Cops can tend to abuse their power and are often corrupt.
However, this is completely separate from the original issue where the officer was simply enforcing the laws of the road. As trivial as some may think that duty is, it is an integral part of an officer's job. The reality is that a lot more people die in traffic accidents than by murder.
