What if electricity siezed to exist?

Think about this: What if an electromagnetic pulse from the Sun enveloped the Earth for a thousand years? Electricity siezes to exist and be used. Cars don't start, lights off, etc.
What would you do?
Do you think the people would topple over the government?
How would other countries be affected?
Would your debts be erased?
Would people die?
How would society change?
XD Just curious. I'll get someones answers and then I'll post my own.

What would you do?
Immediately try to gather a group of family, friends, neighbors, and combine our efforts and resources to stay viable.
Do you think the people would topple over the government?
The government would certainly be ineffective, at least at first, because of the lack of ability to communicate so I can't imagine the need to topple it. However the anarchy that would break out would be the real challenge. Hence the need for immediacy on the first questionanswer.
How would other countries be affected?
Would be dependent of the level of dependency of electricity in the first place. Third world countries may fare better than the more progressive.
Would your debts be erased?
I would doubt that debts owed would be of a major concern to any debt holders at that point. Certainly as most information is of the electronic nature seems like putting together a backwards path would be hard to almost impossible.
Would people die?
Surely.
How would society change?
That would depend on the ability of groups to get together to help each other stay alive. Smaller "governing" bodies would probably be set up regionally. People are cognizant enough to know that would need to be at the very least a leadership established no matter what size the group would be.

I think all of the above. You would see the power base switch from the coasts to the heartland, where all the food is produced. Our government would fall apart initially but I think it would be reconstituted. I think less developed countries would be much less effected. The majority of their population isn't as dependent on the grid as the developed ones. Here you would see food riots and mass starvation in the large cities. Be a heck of a mess, thats for sure.
Great thread topic by the way
Be one hell of a plot for a Sci Fi movie.

My friends and I would be just fine. We are all avid campers, have a few avid hunters and gerdeners among us and are in a 5th Century Celtic reenactment group that practices living life as if it were the 5th century - no power, no running water, cooking only with period tools and ingredients.

If you're interested, check out the book called "There Will Be Dragons" by John Ringo. Takes place on earth about 3000 years into the future. Technology has become so advanced that people can do and be pretty much anything they want and live anywhere they want, even in the ocean or inside volcanoes. Then one day the power dies due to warring factions of the ruling council. The only people that are OK and who eventually rise to leadership are those that reenact ancient history by choosing to live without the benefit of the technology of the age.

I would hope being in a rural farming community I would be better off than most. Really all I would need to be okay currently would be a wood burning cooking stove and a manual pump for my well although I do have a year round spring that I could get clean water from in a pinch. Bottom line though is massive death and chaos in developed countries and after a few years a return to 19th century technology like steam power.

That was my exact first thought...grab the tent, shotgun and a water bottle

I honestly think I could handle it, but yes there would be mass chaos in the cities. I'm picturing the scenes from New Orleans...

Fishtaco - Makes those stream powered tractors look pretty good.
Perhaps the hungry roving bands of Urbanites would be huge security risk looking for the last ham sandwich in rural hungry town.
The best and worst of people show up in a crisis... My bet is the worst will out number the best.

What would you do?I would cry watching my tank die.
Do you think the people would topple over the government?
Yes, after all the people found out that they have a 50 year supply of flashlights
How would other countries be affected?

They would pay millions of dollars for our flashlights.
Would your debts be erased?

Actually, we would change our currency to Duracell. So a few packs could certainly cover a credit card or two.
Would people die?

Just Liberals who are waiting for handouts still.
How would society change?

For the better. People would be forced to work to survive instead of being taken care of. The Democratic party would dissolve. Lots of upside here.
XD Just curious. I'll get someones answers and then I'll post my own.

I like the Amish electric heaters they make with all hand tools in an old fashioned shop with no metal or electricity

As for your claim, batteries, wind energy, water energy, etc etc would all still work... the existing electronics might get fried but yeah a lot of pampered people out there that have no idea what tough times are would be done for.

You would die, your heart would stop beating (it is stimulated to beat by electricity), and your brain would cease to function.
