Flower, do you ever go to uscellular.com????? You can see what they offer for wireless modems there....

At this very moment I am downloading software for tethering…it costs only $15.00 more on my cell bill, for 5GB
Otherwise I had to pay $50.00 a month for a wireless modem. I am a happy camper…my laptop is now mobile!!

What you're talking about with the BB is called tethering, and yes, you can do it with the BB. The MiFi card is something different. Its a device about the size of a deck of cards that has a cellular modem built in. It connects to the cellular network and then broadcasts a WiFi signal that up to 5 devices, be it a laptop or any other WiFi enabled device, can hook up to.

My hero! I now have my blackberry as a modem for my laptop for only $15.00 more on my bill, instead if paying $50.00 a month
THANK YOU!!!

LOL....Yes a Blackberry curve, I have had it for year now.

I am not that old..
LOL...In order to tether you have to have a BB or a smart phone...my phone is dumb LOL
So I would have to go the modem route, which actually is fine with me cause I would have to add $24.95 to have mobile on the phone (if it were smart) and then the $15 tether fee....so that is $39.95....the modem is $49.95 and will not affect my cell service...the lady told me that when you use your BB, and you are on the internet with your computer....you won't get phone calls

I am not much of a phone person and no way do I text. I seldom even use it at night, who will call at that hour? I have it for emergencies more than anything else. I can always get off the internet and use the phone. So the tethering option is great for me. When I am at home I have unlimited access on the laptop and the desk computer. By the time I go to work it is 9:00 and most folks on my friend chain are getting ready for bed.
I have hours between trains when I could be on this site at work. I can go sit outside in the park instead of being chained to the office at home here, I can do whatever I want anywhere I want on the internet…for $15.00 instead of $50.00 a month.
US Cellular..Who I have been doing business with for 6 years now, before my divorce even. Wanted me to pay for a modem $50.00, but said I could get that back in a rebate. Then pay an activation fee, then pay $50.00 a month and get this..because I had claimed bankruptcy when I divorced..they wanted a security deposit. I guess my skin was glowing money green when I walked into the store, the color faded as I left disgusted.

US Cellular was my carrier for ever. I like the plan I don't pay for any incoming calls ever, I get free mobile to mobile and any calls after 7:00 PM and weekends are free.
I was just a bit miffed about what they wanted for a mobile internet...The Blackberry thing is fantastic for me. I was going to try the others for the laptop, they all want $50.00 a month for service. I was poised to do it too.
I was just following Meowzers thread to get some info on exactly what is 5GB and how much time does that give me to use the mobile internet.

Really? So you've had them forever, your account is paid in full, and they still won't add a line for you without a security deposit. Jerks

That isn't fair to US Cellular so here is the whole story.
Before my divorce, when we were married the cell bill was in my name. My now X husband had his line and I had mine. When we split he kept his phone and created another account in his own name months after. Somewhere in that mess was apparently a $91.00 charge that was never paid.
While my account is and has always been in good standing, US Cellular wants their $91.00…I didn’t know about that money until I tried to get the mobile internet. I do remember them asking for it months and months ago, and I told them it was my X Husbands line not mine. Then I forgot about it.
According to US Cellular it went to collections against my name.

US Cellular has always been a great company to deal with. I don’t pay for any incoming calls, after 7:00PM is free, as are weekends and mobile to mobile. I have 1000 minutes between my Mom’s phone and mine which is plenty.
Payday is this Wednesday, and I am going to just pay it, so it’s off my record. I can chalk it up to another unhappy ending concerning my X. It isn’t under his name, so it falls to me and I don’t want a measly $91.00 to bite me in the butt years from now. I want to purchase the house I am living in, and my credit has to be rebuilt.
I was miffed about the $91.00…I felt my account has always been perfect, my good record should account for something. However everything turned out right, in the end it saved me from paying $50.00 to get a modem, another fee to activate the account, and another $50.00 each month for two years… to just adding $15.00 to my existing bill.

oh that explains it. If you argue long enough and go far enough up the chain then they'll usually wave something like that. You're best bet is to see if you can get the number to the retiontions department. Most cell companies have a department that all they do is try to retain long standing customers. And they have free reign to do just about anything they want...

"retiontions department"? Do I ask someone from US Cellular like in the customer department? So far they keep saying it is out of their hands and in the collection agencys hands, they have nothing to do with it anymore
