Hard to say, but with the purple tips I would have to lean towards h.crispa (sebae).

Did you just get it? Anemones tend to bleach with the stress of harvesting, shipping, moving form the fish store to your tank etc. etc. Natural sea water parameters, lighting, food will help it to regain it's symbiotic zooxanthellae algae.
Do some research on these animals to see what their needs are.

Yes, It is a recent aquisition. I've been researching all night about this guy, but a pressing question is, how will I know when he's about to bite the dust? I had a pink tip before, and when he died very suddenly he got sucked up into the filtration and crashed my tank. Will he just shrivel or turn gray? What is a good indicator that it is time to euthenise him and lay him to rest?

This is not like the anemone you had before if what you had was a Haitian Pink Tip Condylactis gigantea. These rock flower anemone Epicystis crucifer are a tad easier to keep and a tad less demanding. Some good small pieces of meaty marine food given directly to the animal t2ice per week will help to bring it back. Moderate to strong lighting and moderate to intense random flow will also help. Yes if it dies, and it should not with the proper care, it will start to shrivel and melt and should be removed when you see this happening.
