Well "rock" can't be live? It is a non-living substance? The things that make the rock "live" only inhabit the rock. When a creature "eats/nips" it is just removing the inhabites from the rock.

IDK last night on chiller I watched "Rock Monster"..and this rock actually got up and ate people....so if you want to really know what live rock is I would have to say watch chiller once in a while...

So live rock is a misnomer. Am I to understand that the rock itself is not live? If so then it is just a media for micro and macro algae to grow nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria to colonize on and in. critterrs to have a refuge Is this correct ?

If the rock isnt alive then how come every day its in a different location in my tank. I mean a 3/4" clow fish cant possibly move a 20# piece of rock...

For those that don't know, Joe likes to ask thought provoking questions that he already knows the answer to. It is not the rock that is alive, but the organisms residing on it that make it "live", and yes they do multiply.
Ah Joe, I have missed your witty posts
