I have a boxer and a basset hound. Love them both! Sam,the basset, is 12 years young and just a wonderful companion/lap dog. Nira, the boxer, is the protective dog. I've had people ask me if she was a pit just from her bark. But she's the most playful dog I've ever owned and the sweetest. She's so good with my kids.

That is a BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN! What was his story?
The golden is actually the first dog we got from a breeder (he's a pure-bread). We had to put our black lab down, so he was the replacement I guess. Every other dog has been from a shelter or from some other situation.
The beagle was badly abused and dumped into the shelter. Took him a while to calm down and allow people to touch him but he's my little buddy now.

Nicest personality dog I have ever had.
Too bad they have so many medical issues and do not have the longest life span

I know they have bad problems with their hips. What other issues are they prone to? My wife and I absolutely love Berners and Swissies (I'm more partial to the Swissies cause of the short coat) and we've said that if we ever go for a pure bred it would be either one of them or a full blood Ridgeback.

ok so my neighbors are going to be getting rid of their english bulldog of about a year old. they are getting rid of him because it was a gift for the kids but they dont play with him and the parents both work full time, so no one plays with him or pays any attention to him. when i started this thread i wanted a st bernard, but for several years my second choice was an english bulldog.... but then found out about all the health problems associated with them... the neighbors paid like $3k for it because its from some grade A champion show bloodline or something and neither parents have had any health problems. They are asking for a rehoming fee but its no where near what they paid, they just want it to go to a good home and with someone they know so they can ask how hes doing etc.
should i get it?

Please research the breed first. There is nothing worse than someone grabbing a bully for the wrong reasons. They are the only breed I have owned in my adult life (12yrs) and would not have anything else. I would be glad to answer any questions you may have.
