i have a 125 DT and am trying to set up my 55 gallon sump.
what i have:
1200 gph rated dual overflow box,
Mag12 return pump,
i have a ball valve just after the return.
i am using a 1" return piping from the return all the way back to the tank.
my problem:
everyone told me to get the Mag18 and i went with the 12.
i have the ball valve turn almost all the way back.
i know there is no reason to be throttleing my Mag12 back like this.
but when i throttle it up it drains to much water. my sump starts to sound like crazyness. and madd madd little bubbles in the DT.
HELP!

Am sure that plenty of people will be able to help... But - a description or photo of your sump design would help immensely.

How low are you overflow strainer boxes? can you lower them farther into the tank , doing this will give you more flow (drainage) into your sump ,in turn you should be able to open your return pump up more if not all the way.. from what you are describing you don't have enough flow going to your sump and when you try to open your return pump up it is draining your sump to quickly causing micro bubbles by your pump sucking air when the level gets to low...

Do the U's have air in them? Are you using stand pipes (durso) in the rear OF box? What comes after the 2@1" drains?
The OF is primed properly? there's enough water in the system?
A pic of the whole set-up would go a long way.

i have my pump throttled way back. i know it should be wide open its only a Mag12. but when i do it drains the sump to quick. honestly been having so much trouble that i might ditch the sump. any ideas on how to make this thing a little more quietier.

If you really want to know add more water and open the walve all the way if your tank overflows then your box is messed up. 2 1 inch u tubes will create 1200 gph so I cant think of any thing else it could be

I see that white wing nut on the overflow box and I have the same one. it is a loud box but a very good one. once you get the water flow correct you can put something on top of it to make it quieter

thats not whats makeing the noise. im talkin about the sound of water draining into the back of the overflow and should i raise my drain tubes. should there be bubbles coming through the lines down into the sump.
