My husband and I had just gotten remarried. For reasons I won’t go into we had divorced.
A year after out recommitment, we needed work done on our car and were given a friend of a friend’s name and number.
When we go to this guy’s house he was making small talk as he looked over our car. He told us his wife left him just a few days ago and how very lonely and sad he was.
I chimed in with never give up, God could fix anything. I gave him real cheerleaders try at how even the worst divorce can turn out good, my husband and I were living proof. On and on I went…
All the while I talked, my husband had his hand on the back of my neck squeezing ever so gently but quick, I knew he wanted to get out of there, that was his little cue he always gave me, and he kept trying to guide me away from the conversation. On and on I went…
I thought he was just embarrassed about our breakup and reuniting. On and on I went…
The guy said he said he would fix our car and just leave it there for a few days. As we parted I again told him to not give up, his wife could walk through that door anytime.
As I went out the garage the man’s grown son was in the yard, he stopped us to say hi. He told us his mother had died two days ago, that his dad just wanted something to do so he was fixing on cars for now but was going to retire.
All the way home my husband told me how he kept trying to tell me but I was too busy going on and on. I sent my husband to pick up the car when it was done. I couldn’t face the guy.
