Who has seen the new trailer for the show TANKED, airing on Animal Planet?

If it's about the actual construction and installation, I might bite. If it's a cluster !@#* of arguing and "drama", I'll probably change the channel. I drove over the road for a lot of years and I enjoyed IRT for the first two seasons. This year is all about the personal conflict and I no longer watch it. And don't get me started on the NY bimbo thrown in for the Jerry Springer crowd. Alas, I digress. If they follow the KISS rule, I'll watch. Nothing is worse to watch than fake reality shows.

Honestly, the trailer doesn't impress me at all. Looks like a whiny little girl that doesn't want to get her hands wet and a bunch of inappropriate tanks for inappropriate fish for people with way too much money. I'll probably peek in on an episode or two, but my gut tells me that it's just going to make serious people in this hobby pissed because it looks like it makes our hobby seem like a joke.....

It looks alright, I mean I love their enthusiasm but I'm afraid its going to attract the wrong crowd to the hobby, that will buy all the set up and think it will work out the box, Hoping it wont be another "mob wives" deal. I'll tune in and see what their about?

Eh, well... It might inspire more people to get into the hobby - I'll try to watch an episode, but I doubt it will be any good.

Am I wrong or is taking a puffer out of the water like that really bad for them?
Well, it's one of those dogmas enforced by badgering and ridicule on puffer forums, like several sacred cows enforced likewise on this forum-which is why I rarely post anywhere but the Aquarium. Anyway, unless you are a Houdini, you will eventually have to take a puffer out of water at some point. I have kept fresh, brackish and salt puffers for 10+ years and every single one has been out of the water at some point. Unless you want to risk a disease filled tank, you shouldn't put any QT water in the main tank.

I saw a story about a guy with a puffer that he would take to his dentist to have the teeth ground down on every so often. He'd throw it in a bucket of tank water and lift it out for a couple minutes while the dentist ground they let it catch it's breath in the water for a bit.

I'm not very impressed from viewing the trailer with the level of respect they have for the animals. Looks to me like a bunch of thugs and a whole lotta theatrics. I see another monster garage/pawn stars/blah blah reality show clone.
How long into the series is some "dramatic moment" going to be going on where they do a talking head interview where the guy says "The owner's got a party tonight, we have to get water in this tank NOW and get it ready to go for the party." only to watch them fully load a completely uncycled tank?
While increasing awareness of the hobby should be a good thing in theory, if the way they are behaving on the trailer is the way the show goes, is that really what we want people to think we are as hobbyists?

The owner of my LFS knows these people well (I/they are in same city). I talked the the owner about them and the show, and it is pretty funny how these "reality" shows are faked. The producers picked out "roles" for the employees and said how they should play them. They even paid home owners to allow ATM to set up a tank in their house, only to take it down and remove everything a couple days later.

The trailer was removed so I can't see it. I wonder if AP got bombarded with complaints about what was on that video. You know how hobbyists can be when it comes to tanks!

I have first-hand experience watching my Burrfish roll around lifelessly after being exposed to air, and having to hold her 10mins vertically to get her to burp out the trapped air. So there is more then some validity to advising not to expose puffers to air for no reason. Speaking of dogma's the latter part of your post is interesting. What the hell good is not adding disease-infected QT water, if the fish being added, is therefore not disease free itself?

Of course there is a risk of a puffer getting air trapped when taking it out of the water. If you are comfortable with adding water to the primary tank from the QT, more power to you. The tenor of your post simply illustrates my point. Thanks.

I've had puffers, and well, I can personally attest to NOT taking puffer's out of the water. If at all possible... They can suck air, and have issues purging it. But like EVERYTHING else, it doesn't happen every time. And I was able to help my fish purge it, so it wasn't fatal, but took a few days to recover.
IMO we should take steps to take care of our animals, especially something simple like keeping a puffer submerged. But some of these people who are just crazy about letting people know. Keep in mind, we are ripping fish out of their natural habitat and dropping them into a water filled box. So before you go all high and might on someone, keep in mind what you just did...
