I'm not a baseball fan at all but even I know that they spend the most because they make the most... If you had the money to spend wouldnt you want to hire the absolute best players you could? I love how people always complain about the Yankees buying the title. Its not like they are paying off umpires and MLB. They are spending the money that they earn to pay good players...

Out of fairness, they played good baseball. Something other teams with huge payrolls (including them) have failed to do time after time.
My only gripe, is that it wasn't closer games. There hasn't been a good nail biter series since, Rivera blew that save...

That is basket ball, where the commissioner rigs the playoffs...

Yeah, because money paid out definitely dictates superior ball playing. Just look at the Oakland Raiders...top NFL Salary in the league last year.As did the New York Knicks for the past 7 years as well. I see what you mean..............oh wait.
Jerk.....Isn't there a bum in your neighborhood that needs a hug....or a tree?
Why didn't you have any snide remarks about the Steelers last year when they won the super bowl....They held the 6th highest payroll in the league.

Wow, you obviously know nothing about sports or economics.
Good for the Steelers, they won a Super Bowl in a league with a SALARY CAP to ensure a certain level of competitive balance. And the Knicks? They spent a ton of money, but did so on bad players that didn't work out, just like the Raiders.
However, the Raiders payroll, which was the highest in the NFL last year was $152 million, whereas the Chiefs, who had the lowest payroll was at $83 million. That being said, from the top to the bottom, the Raiders were within $40 million of 19 other teams. Which means the individual salaries being offered were pretty close across the board. Especially for high end free agents.
Now let's look at the Yankees who had a payroll of $209 million last year. Guess how many teams were within $40 million of that?
ZERO.
How bout within $70 million?
ZERO.
Look at the poor Marlins who had a 2008 payroll of $21 million. Which means A-Rod and Jeter make more money individually than the ENTIRE FLORIDA MARLINS.
I don't mind Yankees fans who are humble and reserved about winning the Series. It's the cocky ones who really irritate me.
They act so arrogant that they won! Well I would sure hope you won, seeing as you are outspending the rest of baseball by a 4 to 1 average!
In fact, I would say it's pretty embarrassing if you DIDN'T win!

And you really want to know what's wrong with baseball come here to Cleveland, where 2009 World Sereis game 1 starters and 2007 and 2008 Cy Young winners Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia both got hijacked by big market teams who could throw many millions more their way than the Indians could.
So you think that's a good system? Where a team drafts, then develops, then matures to an all star caliber player with a mid or small market team, and then in their prime watches them go off to the highest bidder?

No different than any other sport....Maybe if indian fans bought and purchased more of their team's merchandise the Indians could afford to keep those players. Should the players be penalized and prevented from EARNING more money elsewhere, because the Cleveland Ownership can't market? What about colleges and the number of scholarships they can grant to attract high school athletes.....
See in your mind, everything should be even. Everyone should have the same stuff and abilities. THAT is your problem. If you limit the amount of money a team can spend on players even when they have the revenue, why stop there. Limit the sport to players that run only a 4.9 40 yard dash. Anyone faster than that is to fast and thus has an unfair advantage...

I don't think that players like Sabathia and Lee shouldn't go to NY and Philly and take the money. I know I would!
I'm just saying from a purely BASEBALL standpoint, the way the league is currently structured is horrendous for all except the big market teams. And you can't argue that fact.
And for the record, the Indians sold out 405 straight games in the mid to late 90's, and we still couldn't afford to keep Manny Ramirez, Bartolo Colon, or Jim Thome.
The NFL is a salary cap league and they generate WAY more money than MLB, NBA, and the NHL.
Speaking strictly as a FAN, it would be nice to see baseball step up to the plate, and level the playing field.

Sure there is a cap. but most teams don't even go near it as there team doesn't generate as much revenue to be profitable to the owners at the salary cap.
This year alone the redskins have a players salary total of 123 million. The Giants on the other hand have a total players salary of 70 some odd million. The redskins are almost double....yet look at that....the redskins still suck. Spending money does not mean you get the best players or the best cohesive unit.
You are using money as the excuse and reason why they won......as if that is the only reason any team wins championship ever.
The number one reason baseball players such high contracts is their name sells merchandise first and foremost, talent/skill at their position after that is second. A good example was Michael Vick BEFORE the dog fighting. Did his QB skills justify his salary, no. His merchandise potential did.

How is cleveland a small market team? lol They sold out for several straight years. The Management spent the money and put crap on the field. Then remarkably they stopped coming...
Seriously, look at 2009 payrolls. Think about it, sure the yanks won it all. At number one. They've been number one for years and years. When was the last time they won? 9 years ago...
Other top ten teams.
Astros - 14 games below .500
NY Mets - 22 games below .500 (second highest)
Cubbies - 7.5 games out of division race (third highest) barily won 80 games.
Tigers - won 86 games didn't make the playoffs (6th highest)
And the mariners - 12 games out of first (10th place)
Lets look at some other teams that made the playoffs this year.
The Twins won their division Bottom 7 in payroll
The Cardinals won their division with a payroll around 70 million... They are in the bottom half...
This whole only the rich make it argument is bunk. It just doesn't work out that way.

You know what does suck, salary caps. Having to watch Emmitt Smith leave for AZ for salary cap implications, is rediculous. It happens time after time in the NFL.
The REAL problem is that parady is bad for a sport. The league doesn't need to make it harder to put together a good team. It is hard enough as it is. We as fans love greatness. Can you tell me who won the 4rd superbowl right off the top of your head? No, but you can tell me who won the first 2. I can tell you about the Cowboys(doomsday defense), the Dolphins (orange crush), the Steelers (the steel curtian), the 49ers, or the Pats... I can't tell you about say the Raiders who won I think 2 bowsl?
We don't remember a blip team that pops up wins it all, then disapears from the Radar. There is a reason this series was sooo well watched. VS the last few years. (Like the CWS and HOU.) IT is because there was a team people love, and people love to hate playing in it. (as much as it pains me to say) it is GOOD for baseball for the Yankees to be in the world series.
And that is why parody is bad for the sport. Every year every league has a championship. That isn't news. It isn't every year, or even every decade when we have a legit dynasty. And that is what we tune in to see, what we read about, who we as sports fan idolize or loath. And that is what is good for the sport.
