Ok I must say I am not a very big supporter of the threads that ask every members opinion. I do think in this case it may be benefical to new hobbyists. My question to the members is this.
What do you think is the most inaccuate information new hobbyists are reading on the boards?

I think there are certain things that people need to figure out what works best for them because many people might do it all different.

clownfish and damsels belong to the same kind of group 'anemone fish', but I agree, NOT the same fish

Do NOT cycle a tank with a Damsel, or any fish for that matter..

With all do respect I think you missed the point. I feel that there may be information given out that is definitely wrong. If you have encountered that info I think members should be aware of this misinformation

Wow, very good question.
Personally, I think the main bulk of it is not understanding the nitrogen cycles and how they work. I also think that one of the main misconceptions in this hobby is reef chemistry and husbandry.
Inaccurate information:
1. That seaclone 100's are great skimmers.
2. Cleaner wrasses can survive in aquariums long term
3. That bamboo sharks can live in a 75g tank (nissan)
4. That sand sifting starfish will not starve to death after eating all the microfauna in the sandbed.
5. That trace elements need to be dosed in reef systems.
6. That play sand is a good option for a sandbed.
7. That Nemo and Dori are their actual names
8. That you absolutely have to have live sand, and not just aragonite
There are more... many many more

My old friend perhaps I am crazy like a fox. Perhaps this thread was just a ploy to draw you out of the parallel universe you inhabited and once again give you the opportunity to share with us the wisdom of the universe. Yea right I think a better explanation is I AM just crazy

Larger fish are ok to stay in a smaller tank because they only grow to their environment so it's no big deal. This one drives me nuts!!!

I can't say that there's really "bad" information that they're getting because usually there's someone on here that will jump in and correct, give another view or flat out prove that something is wrong that's posted. I agree with one of the posts, "That there are absolute right and wrong answers."
That all being said... I've seen some "Did I just read that correctly?" moments by new people in their first couple of posts. Normally it starts with, "Hey everyone. I just got my 20g set up tonight but my Hippo Tang, Queen Angel and Clown fish are breathing heavy. Is this normal?"
If anything I'm relieved they're here because it means that they were excited enough after buying their tank to go lurking and talking to other members that can give them the other side of what *****. told them and read 4-100 different views of a situation.
Sorry, I have to go -- my Emperor Angel and Panther Grouper are fighting in my nano tank.

I just put an ocellaris clownfish in my tank and my husband laughed at me when I said I was going to make a little sign for above the tank that said "My name is NOT Nemo."

Oh, and Joe... I keep meaning to tell you that I LOVE your avatar. That turtle cracks me up.

I much prefer the old vampire avatar Joe had. Very original it was.

Seaclone! OMG. It's hard to believe they are even listed as a skimmer. I cut mine apart to use the acrylic on my diy skimmer. They are good to harvest the acrylic and maxijet pump from.
