OK...I have had both..cc and sand. My main tank has 4" of crushed coral...I plan to use sand in the new tank...I have no problems with the crushed coral, I vacume it once a week, though. I think the issue really is, do you want to do all this maintenance if you don't have to?....so the new tank is getting sand, and a team of critters to be my cleaning ladies....I am old, and I continually seek ways to simplify my life. I don't think I will miss the weekly vacuming job one bit.

I like them both. as a matter of fact, I have them both in my tank so the critters from the sand will run over to the coral to eat the nitrates.....

I use live sand and always will.
Just my preference.
