So this is my story.
Many of you know of my RG trials and tribulations. What I tell you now with my hand to god is the absolute truth. After reluctantly taking a RG from one of my fellow hobbyists the RG jumped out of the transfer net from acclamation to DT, jumped out of the DT into the overflow box and then finally jumped out of the DT onto the floor with it died. As if to pay some penance for taking the RG one of my Hippo tangs disappeared. The fish just vanished no were to be found. I will be damned I said to myself if I can’t keep a RG. Off to the LFS, there in their show reef tank is a beautiful RG. MY RG I say to myself. I tell the owner I have to have that fish. Laughingly he said to me “no way we can net that fish with all that rock in our display tank”. But he will call me if a nice one comes in. The next day I get a call from him. He informs me that they took out a piece of LR to trim a Kenya tree and somehow the RG must have been wedged in to the rock because it was in the holding thank they were trimming the tree in. off to the LFS, after acclamation into my DT with the RG. All looks well he is shy but moving around and eating. Two days later I come home and there he is on the floor. DEAD. Two RGs dead. Death by jumping out of my tank. The alpha hippo is now doing something strange. He is digging in the CC stirring it up so much it is clouding up the tank. It seems as if he is digging a grave. Do fish mourn? Does he miss the other hippo? Is he paying a price for my indifference to the RGs? Hippos are not known as jumpers but I will end this story with a picture of what I found at 9PM today.
