So this is my story.
Many of you know of my RG trials and tribulations. What I tell you now with my hand to god is the absolute truth. After reluctantly taking a RG from one of my fellow hobbyists the RG jumped out of the transfer net from acclamation to DT, jumped out of the DT into the overflow box and then finally jumped out of the DT onto the floor with it died. As if to pay some penance for taking the RG one of my Hippo tangs disappeared. The fish just vanished no were to be found. I will be damned I said to myself if I can’t keep a RG. Off to the LFS, there in their show reef tank is a beautiful RG. MY RG I say to myself. I tell the owner I have to have that fish. Laughingly he said to me “no way we can net that fish with all that rock in our display tank”. But he will call me if a nice one comes in. The next day I get a call from him. He informs me that they took out a piece of LR to trim a Kenya tree and somehow the RG must have been wedged in to the rock because it was in the holding thank they were trimming the tree in. off to the LFS, after acclamation into my DT with the RG. All looks well he is shy but moving around and eating. Two days later I come home and there he is on the floor. DEAD. Two RGs dead. Death by jumping out of my tank. The alpha hippo is now doing something strange. He is digging in the CC stirring it up so much it is clouding up the tank. It seems as if he is digging a grave. Do fish mourn? Does he miss the other hippo? Is he paying a price for my indifference to the RGs? Hippos are not known as jumpers but I will end this story with a picture of what I found at 9PM today.

Is anyone having luck with their tanks/fish right now?

I really was not going for a laugh more like asking the question. Maybe we should step back from playing god with our tanks

So this is my story.
It's sad but true,
About a fish that I once knew,
I took it home, it swam around,
but it jumped out and now I frown............
I should have known it from the very start
This fish will leave me with a broken heart
Now listen people if you don't believe me yet
A-keep away from-a fairy basslet, yeah
(sing to the turn of Runaround Sue by Dion DiMucci)

I thought Hippo's do that when they have ich (rub on the rocks and sand)...you didn't use a QT for the RG? I'm so sorry to see he committed sushi...what a sad double loss.

Do you maybe have a rouge bully that only becomes so at night and chases the heck out of the others?

Joe,
I've said this before. Neither you or I are allowed to keep Royal Grammas. When you want one, PM me and I'll remind you why. When I get the urge to buy one, I'll pm you and I hope you'll do the same in return.
I'm so sorry about your hippo, though. THAT was not very cool.

Dang Joe... I'm sorry about your RG and your blue tang... that is the most bizarre story that I have EVER heard.

Heya Joe, wadya know? As you may know, I did get an RG several weeks ago. Few months before that, I got a solar wrasse, as you also know, they are big time sky divers and just recently made a net top, This thing is so secure I couldn't get out of it.
Well, last night, the wife and I were kicking back enjoying some "us" time when we heard this huge splash. I looked and both RG and Solar Wrasse attempted the jump of fate.
Anyhoo, to the point, I looked at your hippo kaying on your glass top, how much of and opening do you have? If you were to cover the top with the netting, maybe you could do the RG again. Justa thought.

Well as of today the rest of my fish population is doing fine (yellow and Kole tangs, clown, comb tooth blenny and Banggai cardinal). I am contemplating netting the top. Henry the idea of something in my tank unknown to me causing this has crossed my mind. But it would have to be a night predator to go unnoticed also of good size or ferocious enough to go up against good sized Hippo Tangs
FYI there is a 17inch by 21 inch opening at each side of the glass center support

I am glad to read all is doing well in your water community. I did read that Henry suggested a nocternal boogie man and this would be diffiult to detect but not impossible. Do you happen to have a red flashlight, like the ones we used in the military? With this and some patients and maybe a few late night recon missions, you may be able to catch this bad boy.

Actually I have my own DIY night light I just unscrew the lens cover of my hand held flash light and place a piece of red cellophane over the inner lens screw it back on and I am ready for night viewing
