sue, ask a mod to show this to admin, or link it inthe askswf.com forum. Scott should be interested to see that the company messed up.
i've got a pink yuma that keeps dropping babies if you want one or two, just let me know. yuma's are also VERY invasive, the mother movied in onto a zoa rock and killed off almost all of them :(

Your timing on posting the above is uncanny.... I just got another email from SWF.com today that reads:
Hello,
Our entire coral staff has reviewed this picture and no one has ever seen one like this in our facility.
We do not ship substitutes without checking with the customer first, ever.
That is a beautiful rhodactis but it definitely did not originate from our facility.
Thanks for your e-mail.
Kim @ Customer Support

I haven't written back to them because I'm just too flabbergasted by how this could have happened. Divine Intervention?

I also don't want to get anyone at swf.com in trouble or stir up anything. I am thrilled with my mysterious shipment... I ordered a yuma that I never got but I believe what I received is much better. No regrets - just befuddled as to how this could have happened. swf.com is the only place I order from and I KNOW this was in the box with the other items.

I think I'll post something about this "mystery" in the "Ask SWF.com" section. I don't want them to think I'm complaining by any means.... I just think it's amusing at how strange things happen sometimes. I DEFINITELY got it from here but they DEFINITELY feel I didn't. Divine intervention I tell ya!
I'd love a pink yuma.... pink is the one color I need more of in the biocube. I don't have much to offer in trade since I'm a coral newbie but I have plenty of stomatellas and/or caulerpa - want any?

Tis why research could be a problem if you don't do it upfront. Got some silverside? Lay one on your Rhodactis and see what happens. Then reread the post I made and pay attention to the fact that they have a potent sting, they and anemone are of the same ilk:
Phylum Cnidaria:
Stinging-celled animals. Anemones, corals, sea fans, jellyfishes, sea pens... Polyps and/or medusae stages
Class Anthozoa:
Class Anthozoa: Polyp stage only, stomach divided in numerous compartments
Sub-Class Zoantharia (Hexacorallia):
More than eight and multiples of six tentacles.
Order Corallimorpharia:
Coral anemones. Solitary or colonial, flattened mushroom-like anemones. Short, stubby tentacles radially arranged. Look like true corals, but lack skeletons. About ten families. Most common genera Actinodiscus, Ricordea, Corynactis, Rhodactis, Amplexidiscus. (the last two can eat unwary fishes... commonly clowns) Individual polyps 1 inch to 1 foot across.
MEOWZER??? LOL - Did you try this with a Silverside? WHappened?

This is so funny that you asked...I have been meaning to address this..LOL
I tried silversides, clams, scallops, schrimp, mysis....
IT TOOK NONE OF THEM....So I have come to the conclusion that I have a NON-FISH EATING Rhodactis

I can't believe you would suggest such a thing

Well I decided to stop trying to shove something at it...I figure it must be getting enough from what's in the water or floating by

I have a Green rhodactis as well and mine is kinda picky about eating, sometimes a piece of food hits it and it will swell up and enclose like the pics Sue posted and other times it just ignores it so you might try periodically to see if you can get a response. They also get huge here is a pic I took of one at the Oklahoma aquarium that was about a foot across.

WOWWWW....That's a big man eating mushroom...LOL....Do you think they will get enough food from what floats by, or what's in the water?

I think they probably get most of what they need through photosynthesis.
OK..Thanks. Then I won't worry about it not getting enough food since it wouldn't take it from me anyway.

Hmmmmmm... seeing the size of the one in the photo and watching how much mine has grown in the short time I've had it, I may have to take this out of my Biocube. My two choices would be to put it in the seahorse tank or in my aggressive tank but something tells me it would get nibbled on or at least harrassed in the aggressive tank. Heck - my decorator crab would be ripping off pieces and putting them on his already very lovely get up!

There's no problem with a rhodactis in a seahorse tank, right?

HMMM..If they are as mean as Spanko says...IDK%%
I just looked them up in the compatibility chart...most mushrooms are a 0 threat except for an elephant ear mushroom...soooo I guess it would be ok

Ugh. Not only isn't the rhodactis a zero on the chart, it's not even a 1, 2, of 3! A four - HOLY CRAP!
If only swf had sent me what I ordered I wouldn't be in this predicament.
It's gorgeous, but certainly big enough to eat a seahorse if it's so inclined. I really don't think it would - it closes up slowly when it eats but then again seahorses move very slowly too and sometimes can't get out of their own way. Seahorsers are beautiful, but not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Latin? Nah, I have enough problem speaking English half the time and as long as we have you, Henry, you can keep teaching us the scientific and common terms. I had no idea I had an Elephant Ear Mushroom!

OK, I guess I'll keep it in the Biocube a while longer, but, as Adam said to Eve: "Stand back - I don't know how big this thing gets!"
