    29Gallon Biocube Refugium?

This depends on what you are looking to do, Some people have shoved some chaeto in there with submersible lights or had a small pendent or light suspended above. I have not however heard of any success or for that matter failures with those magnetic lights that you attach to the back. Here is a...

    210g Things with Stings tank.

I have full confidence you guys will get it to the point you want it, in the past you have put together some amazing tanks and kept some of the coolest scorps. Good luck with it and I'm definitely following along.

    ANEMONE? CORAL? SOMETHING ELCE?

They are tiny feather duster worms. No worries quite harmless and in their own way a good addition to the diversity of your tank.

Starting the 29gal Biocube back up!!!

As far as the CUC goes that's all up to you. Sites such as this one have clean up crews that are prepackaged to give you an easy option. Bottom line, however, the more variety you have the better off you are, there are millions of types of motile invertebrates in the ocean. Many people will tell...

White crab under zoa colony? Good or bad?

If I remember right you would do good to dip in Iodine, just follow the instructions and dont let it be dipped for too long, also as I recall, pox tend to be all over the polyps and remind me of ick. Unfortunately, I can not really tell from the picture, is that glare off the zoanthid slime or...

150 g Reef build, slow and steady on an even slower budget

If you have a LFS who test water, you may want to have them test your water params. Really high nitrates will cause some inverts to decline in health. Also you may want to invest in a copper test kit just in case you have any, which would kill your inverts. The tank is coming along very nicely...

150 g Reef build, slow and steady on an even slower budget

With your HOB filter here is what I would do... You need the flow as you have no powerheads, in a reef aquarium you want to shoot for 5 to 10 up to 20 times turnover so in a 150 up to 3000 gallons per hour. In my 65 gallon I have 1015, but I keep a few sps corals. (they require massive...

150 g Reef build, slow and steady on an even slower budget

Hello and Welcome! This is an especially addicting hobby. but there are many do-it-yourself alternatives to anything you can purchase. http://www.mindspear.com/reef/concrete/index.htm will show you how to make your own live rock. If done right it ends up costing about $1 a pound, but it is a bit...

    LED Light Question

Meowzer, the bulb mentioned fits in a standard socket and is essentially five LED's set into a bulb shaped heat sink. It is a simple "bulb" that has light output notably equal to metal halide, i.e. it is incredibly strong. One hobbyist on central is using 3 of these bulbs over a 56 gallon column...

Opinions NEEDED! Is there are market for this?

Well the current market contains units that range from 99 to 500, so if you can make this a midway price range unit with that touch screen, you may find more buyers than you think. As long as it can substitute a wavemaker and keep tabs on run time of lights, pH and temp, depending on the number...

    Lighting opinions

Well, I suppose there are a couple of other things we need to know to help you. First of all what are the dimensions of your tank? And second what do you not like about your currentl lighting? Are you wanting the ripple effect as seen in the ocean? Or are you just wanting to be able to keep any...

    Katsafado's first ever 10g SW tank(nano)

The only problem I see with evil's lights is that over a 20 tall, to get the light penetration and par for sps, wouldnt you still need at least two maybe three, depending on how high you had to place them to get even light dispersion. The spot light effect is common in LEDs, if you want to...

    Katsafado's first ever 10g SW tank(nano)

Hey Kat, I havent been on these forums for a while but the last time I was, this was what I was working on, but money got tight and I've never actually finished the set up. LED's are pretty cheap to DIY. The par they produce is similar to metal halide. I'm gonna PM you a link to the big forum...

anyone with odyssea lights? feedback please!

Thats good, maybe these lights are better than the reputation others have granted them. I do agree that lighting in this hobby is incredibly expensive and it is proper to do all that we must to DIY and buy decent priced quality products. I'm glad people have had a decent experience with some of...

anyone with odyssea lights? feedback please!

From what I understand from the more modern units, quality of the housing has improved but overall quality of the units and their sustainability has not. I.E. still not worth the money. If I were you, I would either DIY and retrofit or search the bay. Sometimes you can get some good stuff...

    To Much Filter?

Is it fish only or is it a reef tank? most of the time to keep algae at bay you want to have like 10x turnover so for a 29 gallon like 300 gph, on my bicube 29 I have the return rated at 243, and two koralia nanos both rated at 240 gph so for a total of 523 on a reef.

Tango gave you some good and effective options, also you can try a matted filefish. If I were you I would get a few peppermints a copperband and a matted filefish as all of these are pretty readily avaliable and its a pretty good size tank so it should be able to handle these guys. If you can...

    LED Lighting?

Eh, thats why its beneficial to DIY mostly I'm doing it for the fun and the challenge and currently in the aspect of replacement of lights LED"s only lose aboutu 30% of intensity after 11.5 years at 12 hrs a day. Pretty cost effective I personally think.
