    65w Fluorex pc lights

Anyone using these? Made by Lights of America I think. They are supposed to put out 6.5k light comparible to a 175-250w metal halide, but they are a pc bulb (only use 65w) and found at home depot and other places for under 30 bones. I have heard it on other BBs and was wondering about...

    substrate in a hyposalinity tank?

After listening to the chior preach about the nessesity of having a hospital tank, I went out and bought a really nice 26 gallon All-Glass bow front tank and stand to set up as a hospital tank. I am planning to do a hypo-salinity treatment to get rid of an outbreak of ick, and from what I'm...

Differences between a hydrometer and a refractometer?

Thanks for the above info. Now for part two of the question,; what is the difference between specific gravity and salinity? I think I know the answer, but would like a confirmation!

    Substarte in a hyposalinity tank?????

Kelly, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. From what I have read so far, ick can not live without a fish host in a state of hyposalinity for more than 3 to 4 weeks. So if I have a dsb, and keep my fish in a "state of hyposalinity" for 4 to 5 weeks, even the ick hiding in the dsb should die off...

    Substarte in a hyposalinity tank?????

Thanks Kris. I have been reading posts in the disease forum, and as I stated, I am specifically interested in setting up my new 26 gallon bow tank for hpyosalinity treatments only. I guess my question is "why isn't substrate recommended in a hospital tank"? I think the answer may be that if...

What are the differences between a hydrometer and a refractometer? Don't they both measure specific gravity? What do each of them do? And what is the difference between salinity and specific gravity? Thanks!

difference between specific gravity and salinity?

Thanks guys for the info, and the attempt on Luke's part. I no longer want to be "that guy" who wonders why things sometimes don't go my way in the reef tank.

Avoiding a cycle on a new tank?

I am setting up a 26 gallon QT, and was wondering if the tank would cycle if I collected 10 gallons from my established tank, 10 gallons from a friends tank, and 6 gallons from a third tank. The plan is to then do a hyposalinity treatment on my fish from there. Can I avoid a tank cycle by...

difference between specific gravity and salinity?

What is the difference between salinity and specific gravity? What are the differences between a refractometer and a specific gravity meter? I am setting up a QT, and plan to use hydrosalinity treatments to cure an outbreak of ick. These are questions that have come up in reading other...

After listening to the chior preach about the nessesity of having a hospital tank, I went out and bought a really nice 26 gallon All-Glass bow front tank and stand to set up as a hospital tank. It's a really nice set up, and I want it to look nice in my home. I am planning to do a...

    100 lbs dead live rock

If your concerned about a second spike after the first, just add one piece of lr every two weeks or so. That won't cause a spike, and won't hurt your wallet nearly as much.

    Corrals

saltwaterfish.com is a good site. In addition, in using this message board, one of the "rules" is that no other internet sites can be mentioned. So give saltwaterfish.com a chance, and if you want shop around and compare prices, you'll have to do a search on your own. Good Luck!

    peppermints and cleaners

I have a coral banded, two cleaners, a pepermint and a fire shrimp, and they all get along just fine. The Coral Banded went after the last shrimp I introduced, the Fire, but the battle was short lived and there was no loss of life or limb.
