what do you add to your ro/di water

Another vote for adding nothing. I use straight RO/DI water for top offs. I do suppliment my tank on a as needed basis, but only top off with fresh water. cyn

How long did you (honest answers please) to get your first invert/coral?

I added my first coral about 2.5 months after the cycle. They were mushrooms. (still alive and splitting) Then every 3 weeks to a month I added another. I have only lost elegance coral, due to god knows what at this point. cyn

    CPR bak-pak vs. AquaC Remora

I also have the CPR on my 55. I was concidering the Remora, but decided that it was too much skimmer for a 55 gal. The CPR is working great. I am in the process of removing the bio bale that it came with and letting macro alge grow where the bale used to be. I have a small flo. 'trouble'...

    Raw shrimp to cycle??

If you are showing high Ammonia, I would wait on the rock. You will just kill off alot of the growth if you add it now. As for what kind of rock, that depends on you, what you like and can afford. If you feel you must add rock now try the un cured kind, it may extend your cycle, but you will...

LFS testing your reef tank water?

Any time I have questioned my tests, my LFS (Houston, not real local) has tested my water free. I immagine if I was in there every week wanting a complete test they might want to charge. They do have to pay for the supplies too, but as an occasional double check they do not even question it. cyn

    Raw shrimp to cycle??

What are you currently using to cycle? LR? I would say it depends on your water readings whether or not to add the shrimp. If you have not had an ammonia spike, then by all means toss one in. After it starts to decay some, remove it. cyn

    colt coral

Yes, LFS is local fish store. See the thread in the archives called "Slang Assistance" for the alot of common abbreviations. You said the tank is cycling for 3 months? Has the cycle completed? If not, return the coral and wait it out. If it has cycled, ie. ammonia, nitrite 0 and trates low...

Elagance on its way out- take out of tank?

You know, I lost 2 elegance corals before I ever heard of dipping them. I could not find coral dip either and used kent Iodine on my 3rd and final try. The coral is thriving, because of the dip? Who knows. I may have just finally got a real healthy one. All I can say is at this point it is...

sponge too big for tank! (goes very off topic)

OK, now you have me too. Where is the pic of the real sponge??? Not here because it does not exist. Even in LA they have 1 hour photo shops.. common kid get a life! With all due disrespect, cyn

How often do you go to the LFS??

I go to the LFS in Houston about every 2 weeks. I have a favorite, but an exploring some of the others as well. Lately, I am not getting to Houston as often it is an hours drive or longer with the new speed limits they have imposed!

    Help with Banghii cardinal please

FM, Thanks for trying to help. There is some confusion here, the fish's eye was not cloudy, just huge. I am stumped, honestly I do not think it was popeye, as from what I have read the cornea becomes cloudy and the eye swells. In this fish the eye was clear but twice the size of the other...
