ahh.. didn't realize 6ft'ers explains the lighting however - still intrigueling listening for more responces to the originally posted problem :) my next couple coral purchases will most likely be a frogspawn, fox and perhaps hammer - as soon as I get my tanks calcium system setup and maintained...

    Calcium Question

doesn't the load (inhabitants using up the Calcium) also play a part tho? Besides coraline algae - what else is really using the Ca in my tank?? Don't have many corals yet. If i understand - ur saying add a Ca product to raise it - use Kalk to maintain (replenish it). At waht point is Kalk...

    Fox Coral

PS: Reef, u said they are "fairly aggressive"?? How so?? I assume they do not move. Are there other ways of being 'aggressive' otehr than "touching/stinging" and "chemical warfare - releasing toxins"?? the fox doesn't have tentacles from what i can see - so are you saying it releases...

    Fox Coral

2 questions on these kinda corals - as the FOX is on my list of getting as well... 1) AQUIRING CORALS: do you guyz trust ordering them online as compared to LFS??? I must admit - we have 3 LFS's that specialize in saltwater fish - and they almost ALWAYS have tissue regression and signs of not...

    Calcium Question

another question... reading this in the directions area.. is mentions.. "Only mix enough to last a week......Use drip method or dosing pump to drip into system on a continual basis to replace all water lost to evaporation" Leads to a couple questions.... how do most of you handle evaporation...

    Calcium Question

Originally posted by quazi However, Sgt York, realize that kalk will not raise your Ca, it will stabilize it and help maintain it. You STILL need a Ca source to boost your Ca to over 400, and as I said, I find Tropic Marin's Bio-Calcium excellent, if very hard to find. Other Calcium additives...

    Too many tangs?

WOW - and i thought i wrote long mssgs :) lol seems most of ur conclusions are based on previous experiences and EXPECTED (sometimes preconceived notions) of what people may do. I guess that is understandable, given ur previous experiences at a LFS. I am sure you saw a dirty side of the hobby...

    Calcium Question

ok... maybe some dumb questions rising here - as i'm newer to the reef/coral side of the hobby. How do you know if u have high or excess nutrients?? What nutrients are you speaking of. AS i understand.. the basic tests are: ammonia/nitrite/nitrate Ph/salinity phosphates as u get into corals ur...

    Calcium Question

    My tank is "crashing"/"recycling" :-(

would be nice to get some of the more experienced tankers in on this one - bangguy - sammy - etc... There might be a much less intense way to handle this - but as you can see - time is against you here. Try to get some of the more experienced reefers to respond. If it were me, i'd likely tear...

    Too many tangs?

ophiura, wide ranges of opinions are wonderful. and many people do things different. Some people filter with wet/dry's others use the berlein method. some people strive for more natural approaches (refugiums and trace element replenishment) while others use dilution more (water changes)...

    Christmas Tree Worm Rock Hitchhikers

I assume a peacock is different than a mantis tho? What does a mantis look like?? Also, anyone who has some ideas about the "WHITE shrimplike" creature as described above on the Xmas tree rock - would be greatly appreciated. Sounds like the same thing that is parasiting on my gargonia as well.
