how do i set up my reef?

if you have a lot of live sand and live rock your tank will cycle real real fast. maybe in a week or so. Honeslty i added all live sand and live rock before i started to cycle my tank. I put in a damsel and the next day got a diatom bloom. Checked all levels and ammonia and nitrite were 0...

how do i set up my reef?

just stack them anyway you want. Just try to not stack up against the back wall that way your fish will have room to swim back there and hide if they feel threatened. :happyfish

To Kalk or not to Kalk

One more question. Does it matter when you dose the B- ionic. Mornings are always hectic for me. Do you have to dose it when the lights are out?

To Kalk or not to Kalk

gotcha... So if I were to remove the glass tops any idea on how much water per day i would lose? Or is that more on a tank by tank basis? I like the idea of dripping kalk so much better. the less hands on stuff that needs to be done the better the tank will be. I am assuming that different...

    Any Pennsylvanians or NewJersey-ites?

the people at tropiquarium are real nice. They sold me a fish that broke out with ich and offered to replace anything that died if treatment failed. They also gave me 3 cleaner shrimp for free as well. I live right on the centeral shore line so trop is prob about 10 miutes away.

Kip, Are there any corals that don't seem to mind much of calcium levels that much? Also what about iodine?

To Kalk or not to Kalk

WOW. I figured I would add my buffer and calcium to the tank once a week. I already have salifert test kits. Calcium was at 410 and dkh was at 9. Wouldn't adding additives everyday cause some serious problems.

To Kalk or not to Kalk

I wouldn't mind taking off the glass tops but they are there for preventive measures. As in my cat who likes to go swimming for fish. he has done it before and the tank is in a open room. :scared:

    starfish

e damsel started off nice. Then my tang was missing half his tail. Then came some of perc's fins. My brittle star started to have shorter legs. Then there was the blue damsel who looked perfectly untouched, puffing up at anything that went near him. :notsure:

starfish are very hard to keep. Have you checked your water? If that is not the problem maybe something is feeding on him. What else is in the tank?

To Kalk or not to Kalk

Thanks Thomas..... My tank does not evaporate very fast. I have glass tops on the top of my tank. I would say i have to add a half a gallon every 3 days. Dripping Kalk would seem like the best thing to do to keep all levels constant. I read in a thread by kip you should find alternate...
