    Disaster!!!

I had the same thing happen to my 90, woke up and the tank was half empty, water everywhere! I ended up buying a bunch of cheap plastic tubs at Walmart (just make sure they're food safe) and hooking them all together with U-Tubes, 4 tubs total and put my skimmer and pump, heaters, etc. in the...

    Auto Top Off Units

I've had a few bad experiences with ATO's, so now I just use a digital timer. It takes a couple of days to get the setting just right but once you do you don't have to worry about anything going wrong.

DIY Protein Skimmer for 55gal Questions

Wow building a protein skimmer, that's ambitious. You should check Craigslist, there's a ton of people selling their tanks and stuff, I've gotten some great deals. I bet you could pick one up on the cheap.

When to add a yellow tang/Live Rock Questions

Welcome, I'm new here to and everyeone's been very nice and helpful. I'd say that the general opinion is that a 72 is to small for a Yellow Tang. They also get fairly agressive so if you do decide to get one anyway, add it last. I recently had to remove mine from a 75 because of the agression...

Filter sock or no filter sock in refugium?

Half way done building my first refugium, 20 gal. for my 75 gal. DT. So far so good. There seems to be some difference of opinion if a filter sock should be used on the inlet from the tank. Some people just run the water straight into the first chamber with the skimmer, others say you have to...

Aggressive three stripe, what should i do?

The damsel MUST go, there's no getting around it. You could move all the LR to one side of the tank and net him. Some people have tried to make a trap out of a plastic bottle but that's never worked for me. There are several threads on it. If it were me I'd just take the plunge, move ther LR...

    New build///Need Help

Check out a product called Special Blend by Microbe-Lift. It's a bacterial supplement that I've been using for cycling and it really seems to work well. And please go slow, I know it's tough, but it's really the only way. Good luck!

Bump It's go time so if anyone else has an opinion about the protein skimmer going before or after the refugium please chime in. Thanks!

    Looking into a Hydrometer

I would never adjust salinity based on a swing-art hydrometer. I actually bought a glass bulb hydrometer (which are much better) and even that's inaccurate compared to a refractometer. However, it's consistently inaccurate and I know what it has to read to be in the 1.024 - 1.026 range...

Need advice for building my first fuge.

Okay just so I'm clear, the skimmer HAS to go after the refugium? Thanks for the help!

Need advice for building my first fuge.

I'm building my first fuge under my 75 FOWLR, it currently has a wet/dry sump with a protein skimmer in it, about the size of a 10 g. tank. I'm going to add a 10 or 20 gal tank for my fuge (under the tank next to the wet/dry) and would appreciate some opinions on a few things. Questions: Shoud I...

    75 gallon tank build!

Great thread, nice build, congrats! I would think carefully about buying fish online though. Here's my issue, to get the free shipping you have buy a lot of stuff. I'm a firm believer in adding things slowly, especially fish. One maybe two at a time tops, then give them time and make sure...

Fire Fish being picked on by Clowns....what should I do?

Tough call, nothing worse than watching a fish get picked on. If it were me, I'd return the firefish to the lfs, just to be safe. Two clowns in a small tank are going to be VERY territorial. You could wait and see what happens but you run the risk of waking up and finding the little guy dead.

92 Gallon Corner Tank Build Thread!

Looks like you're off to a great start! Do yourself a favor though, take some time to think through and research your fish list before you start adding fish. This is a mistake I always make (I just get to darn excited) and end up limiting my choices or having to catch and remove fish. Make your...

    Help with new setup.

Welcome! Couple of quick things. Get your protein skimmer working properly before you add fish. Get youself some 25 micron filter felt to clear the water up, it may get clogged pretty quickly but it'll scrub the water. Make sure your temp is 78 - 81 and doesn't fluxuate more than 1 deg with...

    6+ inch long bristle worm?

This is kinda funny, my wife and I have an ongoing battle over these guys, sort of like the leg lamp in Christmas Story. I like the little buggers but she finds them off-putting. So far though, I'm winning! I use the "If we bought a cute little puppy that grew up to be a not so hot looking dog...

    Moving Clowns to 10 Gallon

I had a 55 that sprung a leak and I had to do and emergency evacuation. I put two clown and about 15# of live rock in a food-safe tote and stuck a protein skimmer and heater in there and they were happy as clams. Just be careful with the sand, if you stir it up you may get an amonia spike, I...

Will my established Y Tang bother a new Diamond Back Goby?

Well I added the DBG yesterday and my Yellow Tang and Damsels didn't even notice him. Score! He went right to work on the sand and all's well. I'll be keeping my eye on things but so far so good.

    6+ inch long bristle worm?

I've got a couple that big in my 75 g. Not the most attractive guys but still great members of the CUC. So if you don't mind looking at him I say let him be. If not, then lure him out with food or get him at night.
