    I'm finally up and running!!!

I use a 200 micron sock, clogs up less often. I'd use one or two shrimp tops, and stick them in a bag so you can fish them out easier. The only media I run is Boyd Chemi Pure Elite, best stuff EVER! It takes care of phosphates too and balances the pH. Just make sure you rince it really well...

    Noisey overflow

The sock is clean! It's weird, I'm going to play with it tonight. Thanks for the suggestions, it's always something with a tank isn't it.

    I'm finally up and running!!!

Looks great! Nice job on the refugium, I just built one with a very similiar design (slightly lower water level though, I'm a chicken). And you've left ample room for a good size skimmer, big plus. Are you using a sock on the bottom of the inlet tube to the fuge? I've done it both way and think...

Starting my cycling. Do I have my facts straight?

There are many methods and most are fine, except cycling with a live fish, that I wouldn't do. Here's what I do: Put a raw shrimp in a filter bag and throw it in there for a day, I like to spike the ammonia over 1 ppm. Use the bag so you can get it all out. Run lights for 5 hours/day during the...

    Basket in refugium for Chaetomorpha?

I was posting at the same time as Joe and hadn't seen his answer yet, my bad. I think I'm going to go with a sponge in the overlfow to make sure it stays put in the refugium. Thanks again.

    Basket in refugium for Chaetomorpha?

Thanks! Okay so the basket goes. Do you think eggcrate will keep the chaeto from going into the overflow area or do I need filter floss? Also, does it sit of the sand or float?

    Basket in refugium for Chaetomorpha?

Just got my DIY refugium up and running, so far so good. I've got Mineral Mud in there with a live sand "cap", and a bunch of chaeto. My LFS guy told me to keep the chaeto in a basket in the refugium so it doesn't get all over the place, which I did. So now the basket is in there with the chaeto...

Damsels bully other fish, chase them, nip at them, causing stress on new fish, probably killing some of them. If you put one in your tank eventually you'll have to catch it and remove it, so save yourself the trouble and just don't get any. If you want to do things right, set up a quaranitne...

    Saltwater Aquarium

It seems unlikely your tank is already cycled unless everything came from an established tank and was transported properly. Still, I doubt it's cycled yet. Give it time, rushing only leads to dead fish. As for fish, you really need to do some research and make a good fish wish list in advance of...
