    QuiteOne 4000 failure x2

Of all the pumps i have heard failure stories of, this is the first for a quiet one. 2 at that.... My 2200 is still working perfect even after 2 months of not cleaning it or anything.

    my experiment with sugar dosing.

Just wanted to finish this thread off. Lol it was on page 8 i think.... anyways. Seams like my high nitrate problem was actually a bad test kit (damn you API!!), so i guess i won't need to continue with this experiment anymore. After 2 more 10 gallon water changes, my nitrates are at 15, which...

Possibly a bad test kit led me to believe i had super high nitrates....

Tank size is a standard 55 with seperate lights. On the right side i have a 24" t5ho single light strip from hagen with either 20k or super actinic bulbs to change between. Then on the left side i have a 20" pc fixture from Current. its a single bulb that has 50/50 daylight/actinic with a moonlight.

Pics of my 55gal reef tank

Besides the obvious (blue hippo will outgrow tank quickly) it looks pretty good. The only thing i would do different with your tank is put a black background on it, and get rid of the HOB filters. Just replace them with another powerhead or two. Looks good so far. Oh yeah, what is your light system?

    Why is it.....

Yeah i find that im definetly more interested in the equipment aspect of everything, even though the end result is always fish..... or corals.... but still the same situation.

Possibly a bad test kit led me to believe i had super high nitrates....

Oops, forgot to add more than just the rant.... I wanted to get my nitrates down so i could try some zoa's. So with my nitrates down to accepteable levels i guess i can get a frag now. Do you think Zoa's would do ok under 1 24" t5ho light? I think it has a 20k bulb in it.... If that won't work...

Possibly a bad test kit led me to believe i had super high nitrates....

Ok so alot of you have probably read my thread about sugar dosing. In that thread i started with nitrates that were darker than what the card would read. I started dosing sugar, and saw definate results with it, but nothing too extreme. I ordered a reefmasters test kit, and it came with another...

    Nitrates over 50..help pls

Nitrates are always going to be a problem till you get established enough to have the proper amounts of bacteria to deal with it. There are many ways to deal with them though. Water changes are the most effective, but also the most work. There is dosing with sugar/vodka/vinegar, but you will...

    Why is it.....

Lol, and why is it you manage to post in most my threads lol. Just messin with you. Yeah, my nitrate problem is getting better. Did another 10 gallon water change today, didn't test anything, but ill do it in the morning. I feel kinda sick all day long too. But is this just me? Or do other...

    Why is it.....

That I love reading the diaries of peoples tanks, and I love seeing pictures of equipment (especially lights), but once the tank is done and cycled i just scan through all the pics quickly? Like when i go to a LFS, i always check out there equipment before the livestock. And i really want to try...

    overflow box

A HOB filter is Hang On Back filter. Its the ones with the tubes that go down into the water, and carbon packs inside of it. Its a generalization of all that style filters. You won't be running one becuase you have a sump and that pretty much is the best kind of filtration. I have just about the...

    Really cheap 2x54w t5ho

No what I meant was I would buy the ballast, endcaps, and wiring and bulbs with one paycheck. Then later on my next check, buy good reflectors. Then with the next paycheck buy another set of ballast, encaps and wiring and bulbs..... and so on till i like the set up.

    Really cheap 2x54w t5ho

Wait... what are you talking about? Buying a whole lighting system with reflectors? Or buying reflectors with the retrofit kit? Cuz i already planned on getting reflectors for them.

    bow front canopy retro fit

Thanks for the answer. Thats a little more than i want to spend all in one chunch. Thats why im looking at doing it the way i am, I could still end up with a lighting system similar to yours, but do it in peices so its not so expensive at one time. Also, i meant to ask if you can turn your...

    bow front canopy retro fit

If you don't mind answering, could you tell me how much you spent total on your lighting? Minus bulbs, just the actual retrofit kits and reflectors and ballasts. Im really interested in doing this for my tank becuase i just don't have the money to buy a nice light set up and i figure i can do 2...

    565 plumbing issue

lol yeah your right, that does look like a pretty weak stand. I would definetly bulk up that stand before its filled and stuck permanetly in place.

    Really cheap 2x54w t5ho

So my LFS just started carrying a t5ho retrofit kit from hagen. Its for 2 54 watt t5's. It only costs 55 dollars. Comes with ballast, endcaps, and all the other stuff. So the only other cost i would need would be 2 bulbs. I can build my own individual reflectors out of sheet aluminum. So what do...
