    clean up crew

wait......let your tank finish cycling. No problem in waiting for more algae to grow. More food for your clean-up crew. They will make short work of it. Plus, most clean-up crews may not survive a cycle.

    sponge

definitely get a replacement. Any part of a sponge that touches the air will most likely die off and pollute your tank. Air will get trapped in the cell walls and you can not remove it. Good Luck

    water temperture

Agreed....any where between 78 and 82 is okay as long as the temp does not flucuate.

    Tank backrounds

I've painted all my tanks. I used to use the backing and tape it on. Over time, you will keep having to replace it -- especially if you have hang on equipment. Salt gets between etc.... backing deteriorates, water gets splashed etc... Painting is not fun, but lasts -- you can always razor it...

    eels

I have both a reef and an aggressive and a reef w/ eel tanks. Tessys and greens will eat everything -- snails, shrimp etc.... SFE, zebras, striped etc.... they are normally crustacean eaters. However, every eel is different. I had a SFE that would eat shrimp and everything else all day long...

    close call w/tesselata

My tessy did the same thing. They are tough. He'll be okay. As long as hes breathing, he'll most likely recover without a hitch Good Luck

You should read Beth's sticky in the disease forum about QTs. Very informative and also a necessity IMO

    Automatic lights?

Remember, if you have a lighting fixture that runs actinic blues and whites and are on two power sources, buy 2 timers and have the blues come on earlier than the whites and stay on longer, better for the fish.

What supplements to start out my coral?

For all sponges, exposure to air will damage its cell walls. Air gets trapped and the sponge will experience die off. Another great story about lfs mistakes. Sponges should be bagged underwater and never exposed to air.

    Hair algae and lights

you say "blades of grass" but you mention hair algae. Is the "fuzzy" algae brown or green? Small outbreaks are not necessarily bad. The blades of grass could be beneficial macro algae. What are your water parameters? have you changed lights recently? changed lighting cycle? Turning off...

    Fish Store Stand

All-Glass is actually made by Oceanic. It is their entry tank line. It is an okay tank and will hold up well. However, if you look through the side of the glass, you will see a slight green hue. If you look through the side of an Oceanic, it will be clearer than the All-Glass. Oceanic is...

    algae problem

There are all sorts of critters/fish to manage algae. However, you need to find the problem, not treat the symptoms. All tanks have some algae growth, but if your algae is out of control, you need to look at your water first. Phosphates and nitrates come to mind for algae blooms. Couple of...

    75G Saltwater

Like most people here......a budget is just a number in your head. You want to stick with it, but you usually end up spending a lot more. However, most of us do have a limit on our funds. My best advise to you is figure out how much you want to invest and buy the best equipment you can for...

    Ok Want Now

Arrow crabs will not attack starfish for food. However, they are extremely territorial. This is one reason you should only keep one in a tank unless the tank is very large. The starfish could have been in its "territory". I have seen this before. Good Luck

    overfeedin a porc puffer

I've had puffers for a long time in my aggressive tank. Feeder fish are the biggest cause of short term life spans for puffers. Feeder fish, as mentioned above, are very fatty and cause liver damage in the puffers. You should immediately try and wean them off feeder fish and heads towards...

    Another Tank Question

I had the saem problem on my 150. I just layered a few pieces of filter mesh under the pipe that drains the water from the overflow and it reduced the noise a lot. Good Luck

    help with lighting please

Lighting also depends on what you really want to have in your tank. However, a just bought for my 150 a customSeaLife Fixture that runs 4 96watt 10Ks and 2 96 watt atinic 03s -- giving me just under 600watts. These are power compacts. Good Luck

    How Many Hours Of Lighting?

Depending on which CustomSeaLife model you got, don't forget to time the fan to be on as long as your bulbs are on. I run a 6 foot system that has 3 ballasts and a seperate plug for the fan. Good Lucik
