Installing metal halides into a canopy questions.

You have to match the fan voltage with an adapters voltage and then splice it to the electrical lines. If you mix the wires up, the fan will try to blow in the opposite direction (I guess that's only some models) so you'll want to switch them the right way to get it blowing in the right...

    vitamin C

I've never had problems dosing vitamin C in some of my reef tanks. It works very well for certain fish diseases. Fish/coral immune systems are kind of like humans - Vitamin C helps protect them against diseases and infections. When a coral doesn't have to put so much energy into fighting off...

    Stylophora troubles

Can you see any types of pests including red bugs in your tank? (I know this is a silly question, but I'll ask anyway.) How far up in the tank have you placed the frag? What are your water parameters, exactly? Nitrate, Phosphate, Magnesium, salinity, alkalinity?

    Fragging Xenia

Oh yeah, forgot that whatever was left would regrow. I guess that shows you how long its been since I've had xenia. lol. I agree with TeresaQ on this one. A fingernail or butterknife would be better if you want to completely remove it from that spot. One time a snail shell was so close to a...

Starting a 55 gallon reef tank. need information

+1 on the book. You should buy a couple of really good books to start out with and then read, read, and read some more. Learn the Nitrogen Cycle like the back of your hand - so that you will be able to diagnose some problems that you will probably come across later. As far as the tank goes, I...

Tanuki's Ocean Adventure (Some new corals!)

I like those home made drawings on the wall. You should frame them! Looks like it's coming along. Let us know what works and what doesn't. I hear yah when you say you regret selling your 75. I just sold an RO Unit that I wish I didn't because I'm getting back into servicing aquariums again. But...

    Vitamin Help ^^

Selcon is good and I recommend it as well. I used to add it to my home made fish food all the time. (I say used to because I don't have a tank at the moment.) I also would regularly dose Vitamin C in the tank. Excellent results... so you might want to read up on Vitamin C Dosing.

A 150 reef tank from dry tank to cycling

Everything now days depends on your budget. If you want something that is flat out amazing and almost takes care of itself, you will have to pay for it. There's a lot of DIY stuff that you can learn on this forum as well, which may make some of the more expensive equipment be more within reason...

A 150 reef tank from dry tank to cycling

Hey there, Just letting you know there's an excellent FAQ section on this forum. It would be a good idea to start there. WELCOME!!!!

    Fragging Xenia

I say cut that little bugger off and poke it with a toothpick into another rock where you want it. It will look like a mess for a day or so, but it will grow to the rock and multiply. I wouldn't worry about killing xenia - it grows like a weed and I almost treat it like one.

25 gallon tank sitting around, can I use it for something?

Your going to incur new costs even setting up a new tank. Your going to have lights, skimmer, and filter and don't forget at least 25 pounds of live rock and 30 pounds of sand. All of that is well over the cost of a sump pump for your 75g. JMHO. Even then, if you want a few ideas... try a...

Don't put your hand in the tank. IE use long handled scoopers, tongs, scrubbers, scrapers and litter getters.

    I have a ricordea problem

Yeah, try the carbon, but I suspect that the salinity has more to do with your problem then anything at this point. Try it and see what it does! Good luck!

Tanuki's Ocean Adventure (Some new corals!)

Sounds like you have a pretty good start. I'm not familiar with US Aquatics brand aquariums either. That was probably way before my time. You should probably leak test it before your bring it in your house! Looks like a pretty good start to me. Your most likely going to have to update that...

    I have a ricordea problem

Use a lot more carbon if you can. What I usually do is take some blue and white filter floss and put a lot of carbon in it and then use rubber bands to band it all together. Then I place it in somewhere that the water has to pass all the way through it. To me, it sounds like some kind of...

Starting a 55 gallon reef tank. need information

It's a reef tank so I'm assuming that you want corals... but what type of corals do you want? SPS, LPS, Softie? Each type of coral demands different water conditions and lighting. I'm just assuming that you want something just to start out with so that you can mildly get addicted to the hobby...

Tanuki's Ocean Adventure (Some new corals!)

Yay! Can't wait to see the build project on this one. Looks like a pretty good system for what you paid for it. The tank alone would have cost $500. I'm excited for yah. So, what are your plans? Equipment list of the upgrades? What kind of tank is it going to be? I think I read one of your other...
