Pics of the inhabitants of my 300 gallon tank.

Thanks for the comments ccampbell57. I thought I was understocked too but the fishes will get bigger and thus I prefer to wait. I do have to add that even if I wanted to add a school of chromis or anthias they would inevitably die at the teeth of the Broomtail, Tusk or Polleni. The Broomtail is...

Pics of the inhabitants of my 300 gallon tank.

As far as the airstone, I never used to see saltwater tanks with airstones mainly because they tend to make the salt creep even worse due to the bubbline and fizzling on top. However, the bio filter seems to be more efficient (I can only assume due to the better mobilization of ammonia) and...

Pics of the inhabitants of my 300 gallon tank.

This is the best I could do for a full tank shot. I am not sure of the actual dimensions but I think it is 8' long x 30" tall x 2' deep. And yes, that is an air stone you see there. I actually have 4 all over the tank and, even though it is unconventional in marine tanks, I have found it gives...

Pics of the inhabitants of my 300 gallon tank.

I set out to populate a 300 gallon tank with a specific list of fish in mind. Over time, the list changed considerably and I ended up with many fishes that I didn't think would be here. However, the goal was to keep the number of inhabitants to 9-10 tops. As you can see I stopped at 9 and...

Finally got a Broomtail but have a question.

Here is a pic of him in the acclimation bin. His colors are now very impressive and much, much better but he is still on his hiding phase in the tank. Ate very well today so can't wait for him to start showing off. By the way, I got some info about them and their possible pairing. Ivan

Finally got a Broomtail but have a question.

Sorry for not being specific. I meant a Broomtail Wrasse.

Finally got a Broomtail but have a question.

Hi all. I finally today got a super show male Broomtail like I have only seen in the pics of them taken in the wild. It is simply amazing. But my question is if anyone has any idea as to how social these guys are with each other. Every article/book I have read seems to depict them as solitary...

    Broomtail Wrasses, where are they?

Renogaw appears to be right. I started asking a lot more people and pressuring for Broomtail availability and the answers from different sources were all the same. It appears Saudi Arabia is not exporting to the USA but still exporting to Germany and thus we are not getting the larger variety of...

    Broomtail Wrasses, where are they?

Anyone knows what is the status on the Red Sea shipments/fishes? I have been waiting for Broomtails to come in as it is the last show piece for my tank and they are nowhere to be found. The few I have seen here and there are going for VERY high prices for the size they are (I saw one online for...

    Gold Ribbon Soapfish/Grouper

Has anyone ever seen this fish available anywhere for sale? Scientific name is Aulacocephalus temmincki and it is quite an impressive fish. I would guess that it is one of those impossible to get fishes but still wanted to see if anyone has been lucky enough to come across one and, if so, any...

    Rare Fish ID needed

To me it looks like a Gracila albomarginata but the common name I have seen for that fish in books is the Window grouper. Ivan

    Grouper question

Thanks for all the replies as they all confirm my belief of a gorgeous looking grouper eating the rest of the tank. Ivan

    Grouper question

Thanks for the replies. I was doing some searching on my own last night and have decided against the Lyretail only because I don't want to risk my Polleni. They could become best of friends but that is a chance that I rather not take. Thanks again, Ivan

    Grouper question

Hi all. I have a question and am looking for honest opinions as I want to make sure I do the best I can on this. I currently have a 300 gallon tank that is housing a show sized Black Tang, a 10 inch Harlequin Tusk and a 5-6 inch Polleni Grouper. I plan to add more fishes little by little over...

    One more large aggressive???

I am not sure if they are nippy towards rays. I know invertebrates are toast with them and they tend to leave most fishes alone but never heard of a Tusk/Ray combination. I figured I would suggest the fish because you wanted colorful and showy and the Tusk definitely has both going for it. Ivan

    One more large aggressive???

Not sure if this guy fits in your plan but I would go with a large Harlequin Tusk. Ivan

    Blackfoot Lionfish and Fu-Manchu tankmate

Have not kept him a super long time but 2 months more or less is still good enough for a fish that people say is tough to keep longer than a month. He eats well, tolerates high temps quite good and swims all over the tank. Can't imagine having problems with him unless I really screw something up...

    Blackfoot Lionfish and Fu-Manchu tankmate

Indeed Lions can't be trusted with smaller tankmates but that's why they have a tank all to themselves. The only additions to that tank will be another Blackfoot when I can find it and a Radiata Lion. So it will be a Lion tank of sorts. Ivan

    Blackfoot Lionfish and Fu-Manchu tankmate

Here are 2 new pics of new additions to the household/collection. Finally finished the 300 gallon tank (pardon the algae but the Turbo snails are lazy) and added its first inhabitant. Ivan
