    Cycle Confusion

I got 200 lbs of rock from this site. It arrived in excellent shape (2nd day air). It smelled like the ocean but I scrubbed it and put it in a trash can of salt water for about 4 days. The water was circulated and skimmed the entire time. After 4 days, I placed the rock in my tank and put in...

    Crab?

I'll give it a try. Gonna be tough finding him in the dark. Scan with a flashlight? Any techniques for "poaching" critters at night? Ok, I just checked the hole again. Now, it's about 1/8" in diameter. Whatever it is, decided to seal himself in.

    Crab?

Haven't seen the critter again. All I saw the first time was some green legs. His/her hole has a greenish buildup around it. The opening is pretty small, maybe 1/4". My tank is cycling now so, I'll keep an eye out. Haven't seen anything else...just rock, sand, and a soon-to-be-smelly shrimp...

    Crab?

I have Fiji rock. I thought Emerald crabs were Caribbean. Am I wrong?

    Crab?

I spotted what appeared to be a small green crab. It was approx 3/8" long and I only got a quick peek. He/she lives in a small hole in the rock that appears to have a "built up" opening. The opening is made from something but is not actually rock. I'll see if I can catch him in action...

    LR/New Tank Confusion

Understood, I think. The reason I ask is that I've read that LR is actually "semi-live" once I receive it by mail. I just don't want my house smelling like a bait shop or outhouse. (not sure about the odor people here have mentioned)

    LR/New Tank Confusion

I've read from many that LR will help start the tank cycle. I've also heard that the "cured" LR will stink to high heaven during the curing process. Question: Cure the LR in the new tank or outside in the garage then add it later?

    acculamating corals

    Accumulate or acclimate?

    I'm a hero

Snooked, were there any problems acclimating them from 40 degrees to 78 degrees? Seems like a huge jump in temperature. I'm assuming they were refrigerated or near frozen when you picked them up.

    hrrm, this is strange :o

I reckon I'm just getting tired of the juvenile and disrespectful behavior. Maybe it's unintentional. Examples from his posts below: "add a fish every 2 weeks geesh" "they sting fish and kill corals hilarious rotfl laughing: laughing: laughing: " "sshhhhh!! thanks for answer all" "2...

    hrrm, this is strange :o

Royal, I'm under the impression that you're about an inch away from an @$$ kicking by the people here that are trying to HELP you. A little respect given will pay big dividends. I base my observation on this and your previous posts.

    Tunze vs. Seio

Thanks all. Pretty much what I've been hearing. Thanks for the reinforcement.

    Tunze vs. Seio

Request opinions and experiences with these high-output powerheads (500-1000+ gph) . These two brands seemed to be favored for price and performance. Thanks for your time! P.S. I have a heck of a time with the search engine. For example, if I type in "powerhead", I might end up with results...

    Is this for real?

Really? 1 per gallon? Seems like a lot, but what do I know. I guess if I get overloaded I could set them free in Galveston bay.

Thought so. Thanks for your quick response.

    Is this for real?

I saw an ad for a "reef package" clean-up crew for a 150 gal. tank. It included about 40 hermits and 120 asst. snails. Is that really a recommended number for a 150 gal. tank? Seems like I'd be overrun with way, WAY too many critters walking and sliming their way around. :notsure:

    Powerhead Question

Roger that. I just read a user review on a similar setup. He complained of a continuous sand cloud and too much flow. Have you had any problems? Are you using the controller to tune down the Streams or are they running at max.?
