Since the tank has only been running for 5 days, I believe you are having that "mini cycle". You didn't give your Ammonia parameters, have you tested for ammonia yet? You do not need to do a water change yet. The high nitrates is part of the cycle. Zari

You don't need to do a water change during cycling. It has to go through this to cycle. First your ammonia will spike, then your nitrites will rise, then nitrates. As for using the raw shrimp, I would leave it in the tank for 3-4 days then remove it. Zari

I would try feeding it silversides directly to see if it will eat. I have a tooth coral that is losing it's color also. I'm feeding it extra to see if I can save it. I have fed it 2 days in a row so far. Will try again today. Good luck to you! Zari

Hi... Be careful how much you are feeding. You will have a nitrate spike and algae. Feeding 3 times a day is too much. I feed mine once a day. Zari

What are you water parameters? I do at least 10% water change weekly, if not 15%. I find this to be less stressful on my tank than doing 1 major water change a month. Zari

I've heard that peppermint shrimp will eat feather dusters. I put 2 peppermint shrimp in my tank, and within a matter of weeks, I was on a shrimp hunt. I guess if I had an aiptasia outbreak, I would consider putting some back in. But that's the only way! Zari

Hi Jake, This hobby is very expensive. It takes alot of money to keep a tank maintained. The more you add to your tank, the more you will have to spend for maintenance. Perhaps you should just leave things alone for now, and buy things as you can afford them. Just something to think about...
