I understand that this is a slow process, but I don't know why I have to discard 10 gallons of water for every 1 gallon it produces. By the time I pay my water bill, I could have just bought RO water and saved myself the trouble. Is it normal to have this much waste water?

Pressure is good. The problem is that the discard water is 90% more than the RO water.

It is rated at 50 GPD.

I'm not sure that they are the same fish. The ones in the lfs store have a richer color than the powder browns that they have - unless they are the same fish from a different region of the world.

Any experience with a gold rim tang? Curious because my lfs has two beautiful ones. I'm not buying (even though I'd like to have one) just curious. Several sites list them as "easy" to care for, yet I've always heard that they are fragile and hard to care for.??

He was eating fine in the dt prior to getting beat-up. He would eat algae strips and frozen blends and/or mysis. He pretty much stopped eating in the qt. If he does eat, it is to nibble on an algae strip. I've tried various frozen foods soaked in garlic.

Well..... trial and error is expensive and there are multitudes of suggestions of ways to fix nearly every problem I've had. Most fixes involve buying something else so I am pondering getting out of the hobby or buying all the equipment to "fix" the problems.

I've had a yellow tang in qt for about 3 weeks due to popeye. His eye is back to normal and he is swimming - though rather unenthusiastically. He will not eat though. He may be pecking at a algae sheet, but wont touch any prepared foods - even with garlic. Don't know what to do.

My experience w/ a similar arrangement. My two yellow tangs beat the daylights out of the yellow longnose. I guess it was the yellow color. Two days in the display tank and he had no color and was developing ich. Had to pull him out.
