    Protein skimmers

I myself as with alot of my reef buddies use top fathom brand skimmers. They're operated by a venturi with a rather powerful pump. Check out their web site at www.top-fathom.com. I have been very pleased with performance of mine. Good luck.

    Need Your Advice!!!!

I think a definite upgrade in lights is recommended. Using the atinic bulbs are better than the ones you are using now, but for better performance your wattage needs to be upgraded overtime. You will reap greater rewards by using a little more juice.

Switching from crushed coral to live sand

First off don't even think of an undergravel filter. They are no good in reef tanks in my opinion. Second you sand probably has become live after being run for over a year. There is a bunch of hype over live sand, but by having live rock on top of crushed coral for a while organisms from the...

live rock - cured or not???

Depending on how fast you want your tank set up and much money you want to spend all at once determines b/t cure and uncured. I have been setting up a 110 long for quite since October. It went from fish only to having over 175 lbs. of live rock in it. Cured rock is usually more expensive, but...

    Metal Halide: Worth it?

I have used 2 72" VHO's on my 110 long, with a timer. Everything grows great and I don't have to worry about burning my creatures. My local fish shop uses only VHO's on all his reef tanks and he has some of the most impressive reef tanks I have ever seen. I have two URI bulbs, which I...

    Caught one of the devils.

No but close. Take a small plastic coke bottle 16-20 oz. Cut off the cone part, right above the label and then cut the threads off. Invert the cone back into to other part of the bottle and tape(duck tape) it so that the cone can not move in or out of the bottle. Then pierce a hole through...

    glass covers ?

I'm not sure what you would suggest, but I'm curious as to what is better than a wet/dry and a protein skimmer.

The coke bottle trick worked for the first one. One more to catch, he's a smart one.

How do you catch a devil?

    Ever seen hard brown algae?

I have noticed a hard brown algae growing over my pink and purple corraline. I thought it was diatoms, but I tried to remove them with a toothbrush and had no success. All my levels are fine except for my phospates which are currently being lowered. I need some shared experiences! Thanks alot!

How do you catch a devil?

Does anyone have a fool-proof method to catching a blue devil chromis in an established reef tank without removing or moving any live rock. I have tried a couple of inventions involving PVC and string, but it seems that those reported fool-proof methods are really made to make you look like a...

    Tiny white things

    Probably spirobids. Harmless filter feeders.

Get that Nitrate / Phosophate DOWN?

The best advice is to get rid of that undergravel filter. As long as you keep running your tank with an UGF your nitrates will always be high. There will never be any way for your system to equalize even if you have all the nitrate reducing substances in the world in your tank. My advice is...

    White stuff

Don't worry it isn't anything to freak out about. It is not salt deposits but it is a form of calcium. They are actually small crustaceans. The white things are their spiral shells. These animals are called Spirorbids. They are small filter feeding animals that show up in newly established...
