    O.T...What is everyone doing?

I'm going to sit at the hospital and wait to sew the arms back on the people that blew them off with fireworks. Be careful!!

Longest and shortest times you had an anemone?

I have had three for over 5 years, 4 for 3 years, and a few for 1-3 years. I still think that the key with them is to leave them alone and don't overfeed. I feed mine once or twice a month. I also realize that on some occasions they will shrivel up, sometimes even disappear. I don't mess...

    Skimmerless??

My tanks run without skimmers. I have an eco-system on each and don't need a skimmer. The manufacturer encourages you not to use one. Along with the skimmer, I have alot of LR in them. My nitrates are 0 and have been for years. All of my stuff is thriving. As a matter of fact, last week I...

Lost site of a Bristle Worm in my tank.

I have thousands of bristle worms in my tanks. At night, the rock and CC are covered with them. I don't think that they have ever caused a problem, but I do know that they consume alot of junk.

Instant ocean vs. Cristal Sea Marinemix

I agree with Wamp. I generally use Instant Ocean, but if I go to the store and something else is on sale, I buy it. I have never had a problem with any brand. Brown algae from Instant Ocean? Those are the kind of unsupported statements that lead people astray.

    Anemones

Just a note. Not all clown fish will go to an anemone. Some species won't have anything to do with them. Also, some species of anemone won't have anything to do with clown fish.

    Anemones

This is just my opinion, but I think that they are easy to keep. I have never lost one. In my three tanks I have 7. The longest for, I think, 5 or 6 years. I feel that the key is to leave them alone and not to over feed them. I feed them frozen brine about once a month, other wise I rely of...

got a green open brain today, any tips?

I have three of them. My suggestion would be to leave them alone as much as possible. They go through phases. Some days they will be huge and puffy, and on others they will be tiny. I think that the key is to leave them alone when they are small. I have never fed them directly, I just let...

    What State are you from?

You know, my wife thinks that I am crazy. I have 2 Bachelor Degrees, Masters Degree, and I am a cardiovascular surgeon, yet my favorite show is Bob the Builder. Probably because, while in college, I worked construction to help pay the bills. The show is so accurate and precise with their...

OT: Just curious what kind of people are into reef tanks

Hey, I'm in my upper 30's. That's hard enough to say, so I won't say my age exactly. I live in Michigan. I am a cardiovascular surgeon. I am married with 2 girls- 7 and 11. I enjoy golfing (leaving right now to play 18), hunting, fishing, hockey, wood working, and boating. We have 2 golden...

    Lighting your clam

I believe that they are all Maxima clams. They are all at the bottom of the tanks, sitting on the CC. I have 6 110w VHO in my 120 and 90 and 4 110w VHO in my 75. Some I have had for 3 years and a couple I bought just a few months ago. Maybe they all went on some sort of growth spurt all at...

ATTN: NHL FANS. YOUR PREDICTIONS FOR STANLEY CUP

I've been a season ticket holder for the Red Wings for 4 years, so you know my prediction. The Wings and Avs can't meet in the finals, they are both in the West.

    Lighting your clam

Just a word for all of you who think that clams can only survive with MH. I have 3 clams in each of my three tanks. I don't very often look carefully at the shells. Yesterday I was staring at them and noticed that they have all at least doubled in size since I bought them. I didn't realize...

OT: Most expensive wine you have ever drank?

It's funny. When I was in med school and could barely afford water I couldn't wait until I was done so that I could buy expensive wine when we were out to dinner and with friends. Now I make over 300k and still buy Busch beer. The wine we buy costs about $12.00 a bottle...tops. It all tastes...

    Critter ID

After my lights go out, I have these translucent, half dollar sized, anemone looking things that come out of my LR. I have about 50 in each tank. They don't come out during the day at all. The tenticles are about as big around a spagetti noodle, 1 inch long, are clear, and have a white tip...

    OFF TOPIC: The Osbournes

It is without a doubt one of the funniest shows on TV (2nd only to SCRUBS). The best shots are when they quickly show Ozzy doing something stupid in the background, like last week when he sat down in a chair and fell backwards, looking like a turtle on its back. I wonder how much $$ he got for...

buying a LFS, what you like to see in the perfect LFS

I would have several display tanks with none of the contents for sale. In the different tanks I would have different options, like CC in one, DSB in another, MH in one and VHO in another, etc. I would have all of the parameters posted on the outside of the tanks along with all of the additives...

    Moving an aquarium

Hey cucumber, do you get your stuff at the place on Haslet Road (didn't want to say the name). If so, I can tell you where to get your drygoods for half the price. They have great live goods and service, but their dry goods are way too expensive. For instance, 16oz of Kent DKH buffer is...
