I set up a 29 gallon QT and I seeded some of the substrate from my main tank and put some of the water from my main tank with new saltwater. I had a few fish in the QT but the ammonia was to high so I put them back in the display tank. Will the tank continue to cycle without fish in it?

Mr. Salty, thanks for the info. but you were wrong-the black stuff on the bottom of my tank was a bacteria NOT algae. It's from topping off with so much water because of evaporation-my tap water must have too much phosphate.

I just got a tiny 1.5" clown triggerfish and he gets along fine with my other fish! I thought by getting him small I'll have a chance of him getting along w/ other fish, but, after hearing this story now I wonder!

If you do bleach your coral you can buy a product that removes the chlorine just like it removes it out of tap water! What I have found that works well is to just pull out the coral rinse it off and put it back in the tank-this seems to get a lot of the brown look off of it and after a few days...

What I'm wondering is say a fish has ick and you put it in the QT isn't there ick in the display tank? And what if you have a 15 or 20 gallon QT and several of the fish get ick in the display tank-than what do you do?

Now this black algae looking material is all over the bottom of my tank, but, just in the middle? It's also on the coral in the middle. What is this stuff????????

I eventually want to get a clown triggerfish and I was wondering if anyone has had one that got along with other fish that weren't the normal fish that people put with the clown triggers(like eels,lionfish,etc.) has anyone had fish like tangs and wrasses with the clown trigger?
