DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

And sometimes too few opinions only consist of wrong info. Because someone is decisive and clear cut in their advice that does not make them right. Quote: Sometimes too many opinions and general what-if discussions results in someone in crisis not knowing exactly what to do since they get a...

    When to treat for Ich

While it is true that angles have a low tolerance to copper, copper is still the treatment of choice of many hobbyists. In fact I would bet at least 90 % of LFS run copper in their tanks. If I was going to use copper on an angle I would ONLY use cupramine as it is safer then copper sulfate or...

DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

So let me run this scenario by you. I have an unknown parasite that mimics the ick parasite in its life cycle of infecting the fish and falling off to multiply. This parasite completely falls off the fish .now I remove the fish to my QT. now in the hopes of getting a jump start on my bio...

DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

I think what need to be absolutely clear here is that the live sand you are adding to your QT/HT IS NOT from the infected tank but from another tank. This is important to understand so as to not give hobbyists with only one DT the idea that its ok to transfer sand from the infected tank to the...

DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

Exactly why I am against transferring sand from the infected tank, what if the fish is not the CONTAGION what if the substrate is the medium by which this disease is transmitted why take a chance it hopefully speed up the nitrification proses Quote: What if you are transferring a contagion...

DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

So let me play the devil’s advocate here. You transfer sand from your DT to your QT in hopes of it containing nitrifying bacteria. Sounds good. BUT what if you are also transferring a parasite or bacteria from your infected tank. IMO it’s just not worth it but Lois it’s your tank and your decision

DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

First things first there is no guarantee that the sand you transfer from your DT to your QT will have any nitrifying bacteria on it. If anything I would use a piece of filter material something which would have come in constant contact with nutrient rich water. This is where you will have a...

Lois keeping the tank fallow for six weeks will break the life cycle of ick IF it in fact is ick. If not and it is a parasite that killed your fish its life cycle may be longer. As far as goby’s getting ick. You have to remember there is a big difference between not getting and not be easy...

DO NOT DO as Meowzer did :(

So sorry for your loss Lois. As far as the cures for ick other than Hypo and copper none work and most state that they help resist ick not cure it. I find it odd that you lost a lot of fish at one time. The ick parasite actually kills rather slowly. It does so by opening up the fish to bacterial...

how do you move a clam

A trick I use and method which works quite well is to simply get a large shell (something like an oyster shell.) put some CC in the shell and place the clam on the CC. it will attach itself to the CC in the shell. When you have to move the clam you just move the shell along with the clam and all...
