    HELP PLEASE!

If you can hear motor running it sounds like impeller ,you may not have pushed it back in properly or it may be damaged. It's clearly not a burnt out motor ! Pull it apart again and manually try to spin the impeller.

How long do you store SW before using it?

hi, i sometimes use artificial salt mixes, in particular Red Sea Coral Pro. On their own instructions it says to def NOT mix for any more than 4 hours ?? I have accidentally left it on for longer and you come back to a cloudy, horrid mess that I chose not to use. Maybe follow the manufacturers...

    Nitrate levels

I tend to agree with you on this. If fish where meant to live in high nitrates happily then the ocean would naturally be high too ? Which when I collect for water changes it is always 0.00 ALWAYS.

    Aquarium flow question

I believe recent changes in thought on return flow has happened In the last few years. Flow within the tank seems to be of more importance than the actually turnover of the tank itself. It appears that for a sump to work with the most efficiency too fast a flow is not necessarily the answer...

    7 Foot peninsular sump !

That seems to be the common thread in what this is. Bacterial. But we don't carbon dose or run bio pellets. Closest thing is seachem mattrix which us rinsed every 3 months to remove detritus. I am going to get a larger return pump & see if increased circulation helps. Although I am reluctant...

Question about calcium and other additives.

ok. get what your saying, but I have to disagree. A tank has to be balanced, mag , cal and alk all tie into that balance. I have used and swear by this calculator that I have used since day one. corals, water quality and coraline algae has flourished. I am not saying its the only way but it...

Question about calcium and other additives.

Get a knife & scrape it off the snails shells. Let it float around the tank it will spread. It needs good lighting , alk mag & cal. Google alk & calcium balance calculator & that will help you balance your tank completely. A balanced tank is a happy tank. That's is the only link I have...

Question about calcium and other additives.

Print off the above parameter guide, It is great because it had different table for diferent tanks and coral types. Your cal is perfectly acceptable for the corals you have, I may bring it up to about 420ppm but you are still well within acceptable range if you have any other questions please...

Question about calcium and other additives.

Wow... 550 or higher, Thats crazy. I dont personally know anyone that runs cal at more than 450 and that's considered high, The range for Cal 380 - 450 Alk 7 - 12 DKH Mag 1200-1350 These are ideal parameters. for steady coral skeleton growth, and good coraline growth. Make sure you...

    tang acting strange

Trust me, a ton of aggression will happen at night after lights down with tangs. Powder Blues are one of the more difficult tangs to keep, they are not as hardy as most others. If he is not as active (they never just hang or stop) and not eating great that is a really bad sign. I would add...

All new additions doing great !

Hi, no you dont need to be worried, Alk can be safely anywhere from 6-12DKH. do your fine, consistency is more important than numbers. If its constantly 7.8 then its all good. Yes SEachem Reef Trace Elements x 2 week works hand in hand with Seachem Reef Plus 500ml. The trace adds trace...
