    Interesting disaster...

What size tank are we talking about? A small tank will definately do this if you stirred up a lot of the mulm in the sand under the rocks.

    Question about Mushrooms and Zoos

James, welcome to the boards. Good picture of the mushrooms, and zoos... You can't really contain zoo's, or mushrooms. Unless you have them on seperate rocks with space between them, no touching rocks for them to travel on. But, don't worry they will coexist just fine. As far as feeding...

    Chili Coral

I have mine under a very large figi yellow leather, so it is shaded. But, I will say that when it doesn't open for a time I have to pick it up and dislodge any particles that have landed on it. I do this by shaking off the coral in water that I have siphoned out of the tank during a water...

    Red Algee Issue

Is six hours the length of time it was on previously with the old bulbs? If so, I would cut back to 4, and then over the next 2-3 wks increase it by 1/2 hour every 3 days until you reach the 6 hour mark. Do your lights have actinics? You can run these much longer to make up the difference in time.

    Options needed lights for a 72" L 125G tank.

I have the aqualight pro.....3 150w hqi, 4 90w actinics, with 4 moonlights. Absolutely love this light. Came with 10k hqi's, ran this for a year then changed the hqi's out for the 20k bulbs and absolutely love it. Have had no problem with it. New it was $780. Of course this was about 15 months...

    blue coraline?

I have seen blue....awesome. But, unfortunately I have mostly burgundy, pink, purple, some green, and one patch of orange. I have found that the burgundy, or red corraline is much more aggressive, and faster growing, and will overtake rocks very quickly. I have MH lighting now, but when I had...

    Red Algee Issue

You say that you just replaced your MH lightbulb, this is probably the reason. If your bulb previously was old, then changed to a new one the output is much stronger. Cut back on the lighting, then gradually increase it, this should take care of the problem.

    Leather w/spot PIC

I'm not really familiar with this product, does it say you can use it as a antiseptic, or for a dip? It is iodide, so should be ok, but I wouldn't use it without more info on it.....for a dip, or bandage persay. Too much iodine on a soft coral can also be harmful, this is why they say to only...

    Leather w/spot PIC

You can also rub straight iodine onto the affected areas, wait a few minutes...1 or 2, then put back into the tank. (Assuming the tank is larger in size). Or rinse in saltwater then put back into the tank. It will be an antiseptic at this point. But really a reef dip is really the way to go. I...

    Leather w/spot PIC

Not sure without really looking at it closely, but my yellow figi leather had something similar going on with its trunk a few years back and I iodine dipped it twice and the blemishes healed up. My leathers spots were really slimey, and seemed deeper. It is now fully recovered. I used Seachems...

    Purple Tang Died

Devil Dog, I know that you keep excellent care of your fish and corals, so I am so sorry for this loss. But, I have to ask..... I loss a yellow tang after 5 years also to an unknown ailment, and the only thing that I could think of is that it was possibly constipated. You said that your tangs...

    my plate coral

Could it be your lights? They need very high lighting to really be happy. Glad to see that you are moving it, but what type of lighting do you have?

    geting salty again

Agree with the above poster, but really start looking into the craigslist near you. I have bought unbelievable beautiful live rock for like 2-3 dollars a pound. Welcome to the "where did all my money go?", and "you paid how much money for that rock" hobby. The start up is expensive, but after...

    my plate coral

It is definately not dead. I would try to move it someplace else and see what it does. They are funny creatures. I see it has some sand on it. Do you have a sand sifting goby? The sand will definately irritate it. Try moving it, and see what happens. I actually have mine up on a smooth flat rock...

    What kind is this?

What kind of clean up crew do you have? I really would work on all that hair algae, it will eventually overtake the mushrooms, and you won't have to worry about fragging them. A few good turbo's will clean it up good for you. Then work on what is causing this. I would think that your phosphates...
