Zane's Aquarium Project (ZAP) - Phase 1: Kickoff & Procurement Planning

try to not let the lfs talk you into putting anymore chemicals into the tank before the cycle is complete. You will see various things that may happen: for sure your levels will spike, the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates. You may or may not see a diatom bloom, this is a brown algae outbreak...

fish deaths after moving the tank

Definitely thanks for all of your help. I had two marroon clowns in Denver and ended up losing them to the ghost in my tank.... ( since I have no idea what's going on yet). This time though, to be safe with money, I purchased two perculas. Again both dead.... It's really weird, isn't it? I...

Zane's Aquarium Project (ZAP) - Phase 1: Kickoff & Procurement Planning

Once your sand is settled to the point where you can see to put your rocks in, you can add your live rocks. The water will get cloudy again for a day or two since you will have stirred the sand up again by placing your rock in though. As far as the temp goes, did you buy the right sized heater...

fish deaths after moving the tank

I've had a cleanup crew in there since about a week after the cycle was complete. I have about 15 hermits, 10 snails, 3 emeralds, and 3 shrimp in there right now. So, now I'll just be giving the tank a couple of months and then think about adding another fish. I'm wanting to do a few corals...

We'll see if this works. Here's a pic of my tank. It looks a little shrunk though.

fish deaths after moving the tank

I think what I'll do for now is get my water tested and then just to be safe, wait like you guys said, for 6 weeks or so to make sure there is no ich living in the tank. Since the tank has only been up for about 2 months, it probably may not be a good idea to add any corals yet, right? I...

Zane's Aquarium Project (ZAP) - Phase 1: Kickoff & Procurement Planning

First of all, you need to find if that tank for sale was used for freshwater or saltwater. If used for freshwater, I wouldn't buy it. It looks to me like it's freshwater. If the type of lighting isn't specified, assume it's standard fluorescent because if it were something else, they would...

Zane's Aquarium Project (ZAP) - Phase 1: Kickoff & Procurement Planning

Your dimensions available are going to greatly cut down your choices, so that decision will be easy for you. For example, I have a 55 gallon that is 48" long, 16 1/2 " wide (this is including the room made for the overflow box for the filter. If you do not use a wet/dry filter, you will still...

    ich still in tank??

I bought two new clownfish and they both died after 3 days. They appear to have had ich the morning of their deaths. If I'm correct and it was in fact ich, I took them out right away, so is there still a possibility that the ich could still be in my tank? There are no other fish in there...

fish deaths after moving the tank

Also, I forgot to mention that the fish are new ones. The move was very long and I sold all of my fish, packed all of the rocks and sand in 5 gallon buckets filled with salt water and then started completely over once we arrived at the new house. Here's another thought I just had. I wonder if...

fish deaths after moving the tank

Well, maybe I should give some more info. This is a 55 gallon that was moved and then reestablished. I have already cycled the tank when I first set it up by adding an uncooked shrimp and by using my rock's die off as means to start a cycle. I ghost fed the tank for a few days after the cycle...

    Skimmer Not Skimming

are you absolutely sure that your tank initially went through a cycle? Because adding fish, unless you add more than a couple at a time should not spike a cycle. How did you cycle your tank when you first set it up?

fish deaths after moving the tank

I let the tank cycle, waited a week before adding my cleanup crew after that, and then waited another almost 3 weeks before adding the two clownfish that just died. I'm stumped....

fish deaths after moving the tank

Anyone ever move a tank and then have trouble keeping fish alive? I just lost two clowns and I thought clowns were hardy fish. I waited a week after the cycle to add my cleanup crew and then almost 3 weeks after that I added two clownfish. Both died 3 days later

    clownfish died....my first fish!

Hello! I'm wondering if any of you can help me come up with reasons for losing fish. This is the third time I've had my tank set up due to moves. The initial time I set it up I had no problems. All of my fish were super healthy, I had a starfish even. Then, I set it up for the 2nd time and...

    can diatoms hurt anything?

did you add anything besides your cleaning crew in there while you had them? I have what I think is a really good cleaning crew, so I was surprised to see the breakout today
