You could try using the modded 400 and with the 900 unmodded and see if that worked without blowing the sand around.

It could be too much with both of them, which maxi jet are you using? 2 mj 900's will give you about 3200 gph. I'd say something like 1400-1600 would be good unless you have sps corals.

I am using t5 on my new 180. I would recommend the aquactinics constellation fixture. TEK is also good, as is the nova extreme pro.

Of the ones you listed you want the MH/T5 combo. The TEK 4 or 6 bulb fixture, nova extreme pro 6 bulb, or the aquactnics TX5 are what I would look into.

Yep, a 4 bulb fixture would be good, you'll be able to keep whatever you want. I would probably get the TEK but thats me. If you get the nova extreme pro it will be a 6 bulb fixture, they don't make a 4 bulb.

What size is your tank? The 48" fixtures will run pretty close to 300. A 4 bulb fixture will probably be good depending on size.

It sounds like coraline algae. Is it hard? If thats what it the snails won't eat it, you have to use a razor blade to get it off.
