yea i would just go with a hang on skimmer and more powerheads. nothing wrong with the cannisters but they can cause problems if they get too funky.

seems to be anywhere from $4-$8 a pound depending where you get it. i bought all my rock from a guy selling his tank in the classifieds. he was selling his whole setup and i made him an offer for just the rocks and he took it. saved me a ton of money. just somethin to think about.

yea you should be ready for life. how big is your tank? i wouldnt add TOO much at one time. remember its a new tank that will have to adjust to the new bioload.

i think they are mostly the same. pretty easy to install. it'll tell you where to put the hoses.. thats about it.

yes the last time i bought some here they were shipped without water. i thought it was strange too but they were fine.

whens the last time you did a water change? when i started my tank it had horrible diatoms for about a week, then i did a nice size water change and it all went away like magic.

there is no magic potion to cure it. i would remove the fish and treat them with hypo salinity for 4-6 weeks. during this time leave your tank fishless, the ich will die with no fish to host it.

depends on what type of salt the store uses. my LFS uses Instant Ocean.. probably all do. not a fan of that salt. plus lugging those 5 gallon jugs sucks

sounds good. id put all the rock in, wait about two weeks then test your levels. id suspect there will be some die off on the shipped rock you're receiving so you will probably get abit of a spike.

yup. mix it with some "live" rock and it will reseed and look good again. it will take a few months tho.

id say anywhere between 1.022-1.026 is fine. try and keep it as consistent as possible.

honestly i would go with the nova extreme pro system. ive seen awesome tanks that use that light.. its not super expensive and you can keep just about anything with that and its not as hot and power sucking as halides. i have a 2x250 halide setup and wish i wouldve went with the nova...

it all depends on how you want it to look when it comes to rocks. some people have 100lbs, some people have 30lbs. if you want a 55 to look pretty full then go with around 100lbs. thats what i had in my 55 and it was pretty full. i would def go with a skimmer. its worth it in the long run.

Id say its technically worth it because the halides are probably worth about that much, but I would personally rather buy a brand new nano. You could get a 24 gal nano for about the same price. Im leery when it comes to "custom" setups. You never know the real condition of some stuff.
