    eggcrate under LR

I use various sizes of large pvc pipe. 2" , 4", 6" . I have a 180G 6' tank and I have 6-8 of these towers under all my rocks on the sandbed. I cut the pipe into lengths that are roughly the depth of my sandbed. Set them in and put your bottom rocks on these towers. Keeps the rock off the...

    weird zoa thing

If you don't have lugols, then do a FW dip. Just take a bowl and fill it with enough RO water to cover the polyps. Try and let the water warm up to room temp at the very least. Drop in the zoas and watch for critters and nudi's bailin' out ! Leave em in for 5 minutes.

    remove the canister filter?

If you corals and tank look good then leave it. I would definitely go to a fuge, but I have a buddy that ran a canister for years on his reef tank. I would keep it clean and look forward to the day you get your fuge going.

    Best salt

There is no magic salt that matches the ocean perfectly. I bet the ocean water in florida is different than the water in California. IO might have claimed that, and it was a perfect match for wherever they got their saltwater sample. As for testing multiple buckets of each salt goes, no other...

    Best salt

I am positive since I switched from IO to Tropic marin I have never seen a dirty bucket after mixing my salt. Never could figure what that brown residue was that would settle in my IO buckets after mixing. I also was looking for higher calcium and magnesium levels when I made the switch. Not...

    Making one last fish decision!

I wouldn't get a six line, there are way too many better looking wrasses around. Another option is a Dragon faced pipefish or a Mandarin, both very docile and oblivious to anything else in the tank. Not the prettiest of pipefish, but by far the hardiest and best for any type of reef tank with flow.

    Fuge Setup

I used mud, and have been extremely happy. I got the mud/grunge from the bottom of the live rock tub at my lfs, paid maybe $10 for it. I also cleaned out the rubble tub and actually got many critters and creatures along with it.

    Best salt

I started with instant ocean. Then thought about why they would make reef crystals. Then I assumed instant ocean was prob a good salt for a fish only tank. Reef crystals for the reef tank, until I heard about all the reef crystal batch problems. Calcium reading all over the chart, etc.. I...

    Difference between micromusa and acans?

Do you attach acans and micros to a rock ? or do they sit in the sand bed like a brain ? I have a couple of acans, and have never been sure how to mount them, and what to mount them to if anything.

    Need some opinions on T5's

Forgot to mention you can leave your T5's on longer each day ie: when T5 lights come on, I have 4 72W T5's come on and stay on for 12 hours. My aqua-blue specials run midday, for 8 hours. I'm not sure, but most halide users dontt run their halides 8 hours. I could be wrong.

    Need some opinions on T5's

I have T5's over all my tanks. 8 x 60" bulbs over a 6'x2'x2' 180G, stager-stepped to cover the entire tank. 6 x 48" T5's over my 48"x16"x12" frag tank, 4 x 48" T5"s over my 30G Long tank, 48"x?x? I have sps growing in the main 180G and also in the frag tank with 6 bulbs. Had this setup for...

    Nitrate spike?

Are you sure you are testing for nitrates correctly. Off the charts sounds suspect. Do you have alot of fish ? A skimmer ? I'm guessing the testing procedure was not done correctly.

    QT tank????

Get a hang on filter for the QT tank. Take out the foam and put it in your refugium of your display. Now it will get all the bacteria needed built up so when you do setup the qt, take out the sponge and put it in the filter. No live rock or sand, use plastic fake rocks from LFS or pvc...

    T5 or PC

T5's are a great way to save on heat, space, and they have some really great bulbs you can get. Blue Plus, Aquablue Specials, Midday etc... not sure if you have the variety in bulb choice in PCs or t6. I run all T5 in my 300G system, never had a chiller, and never needed one. I grow sps, lps...

    Problem with Algae

I agree with removing as much of the algae as you can. I would recommend turning off all pumps so the water is nice and still. Take your time and catch any that floats away.
