Okay, an extremely rookie question. I've noticed that a lot of tanks from the pics have some growth on the back walls of the tank. Is this some sort of beneficial algae and does it grow on the front wall and require constant scraping? Seems kinda strange to me that this is good for the tank.

Can it grow sucessfully without metal halide lighting?

A little confusion about the size of skimmer and filter I would need. Say I were to have 200 gal. tank, would I need a skimmer rated for the 200 or for the sump that it would be in. Because technically the skimmer and filter only see the amount of water that the pump delivers to it. So really...

Is it too risky for some one to just start off with a big aquarium (around 200 Gal.) or should i just get a smaller one and work my way up. I only have experience with a 29 gal freshwater but I've done my reading. I have to wait til I graduate in Dec. but I want a large aggressive tank. thanks
