sump & refugium VS. wet dry & bio balls

From everything I've read lately, wetdry's in time add to the nitrate problem. A sump with plants, algae, rock & sand would be more beneficial.

How much rock should I use and how much can safely be added at one time after the cycle? The tank will have 200# of sand (Approx. 3"). How much LS should I take out of my reef...

    Adding More Sand

I currently have approx. 1.5" of sand. I assume it is "alive", the tank has been running for at least 2 years. I want to add more sand. The problem is some of my corals have attached themselves to 1 or more rocks. The only areas that I can safely move rock and coral is on the sides. Will it be...

    fish for a 150 ?

I wouldn't recommend taking anything from your part of the ocean "clown". I believe that area is a national park or something similar to that. If you keep adding fish at the rate you are, all will soon die. Too much too fast is not a good thing. I have a black volitan lion in my 55g reef with...

    Hair algae

5 hermit crabs would be great for a 2 gallon tank. I have a 55g with approx 40 crabs and 40 snails and the algae stays to a minimum for the most part. Are your lights old? I've heard old light bulbs cause more "bad" algae growth...
