    Joe's Juice Overhaul

Be careful with Joe's Juice it can and will kill other corals. I had some zoos that I wanted to kill and just about wiped out my tank.

    Starting a Frag Tank

I was thinking of setting up my old 55 gallon tank as a frag tank. Is it necessary to cycle a frag tank? I plan on keeping nothing but coral in the tank.

What Corals Can I Get With Current Lighting?

near perfect water quality is the key to successfull reef keeping. In addition you should be testing your water for the right balance of calcium and alkalinity. How often do you do water changes?

What Corals Can I Get With Current Lighting?

How tall is your tank? Your lighting is sufficient for most soft corals such as green/yellow star polyps, zoanthids, finger leathers and mushrooms. You could also keep lower light demanding LPS such as hammers, candycanes and trumpet corals. You cannot keep any SPS, clams or anemones. As the...

    Toadstool leather developed whole

My toadstool leather has gotten so big it doubled over on itself. Where the largest fold is an abscess of sorts (more or less hole) developed. Now when I do water changes I use my siphon and suck out any decaying flesh from the abscess. My water quality is fine and so is the toadstool.

    packing with corals?

with the exception of SPS, which never get exposed in my tank, none of my corals show any adverse effects from briefly being exposed to air. I would not let them stay out for an extended period of time, 15 minutes or more, but brief exposure, in my experience, has not caused any detrimental...

How often can I feed Nori

My powder blue tang and flame angel love nori. My strawberry basslet, clown and damsels won't touch it. The powder blue and flame make short work when I do put it in. I try and give them a 1/4 a sheet every morning. However, on average it works out to more like every other day. Also depends...

    Brown Button Polyp Epidemic

Pbienkiewi These brown button polyps are very common and not that desirable, except with new reef keepers. I was super excited when I saw them 5 years ago. Now I just wish they would all die. Same holds true for GSP. Besides I sold some back to my LFS and did not get that much for them. With...

    Brown Button Polyp Epidemic

What is joe's juice? Let me know how the joe's juice works. I think I am going to treat the poylps like aptaisa and use a syringe and needle to inject them with kalk water. Because of the number of polyps I am going to take it slow so that I don't cause a spike in amonia.

    Brown Button Polyp Epidemic

I have a Flame Angel in the tank. He won't touch it. I have taken some of the rocks out and srubbed the polyps off. Unfortunately this has only worked temporarily. I wouldn't mind keeping a rock with some on it but they seem to spread at will and pop up in the most ridiculous places - like...

    Brown Button Polyp Epidemic

5 years ago I bought some rock with a brown button polyp as a hitchhiker. Today, the damn thing has covered any and every rock it can touch and even has jump to places in my tank that appear impossible. Short of taking out all the rock does anyone have any suggestion as to how I can kill...

    t5 vs VHO

Are T5s worth switching over from regular sized VHOs? I have 2 icecap ballasts (660, 430) already wired and a spare sitting in a closet. My only expense would be end caps, bulbs and reflectors. The bulbs on my current system will be replaced in December/January. Thanks

    Garlic in food.

For an easy way to make garlic juice crush up several cloves of garlic into a very small container - I use the single serving salad dressing cups, about 1oz. Add some RO/DI water and place in your fridge. Within several days you will have highly concentrated garlic juice. no need for a garlic...

    Hammer corals keep dying, Help!

Knowing your exact water parameters is ideal but weekly 10% water changes should correct any imbalances you have. At least enough so that your livestock can survive. If you are new to the hobby I suggest doing small, weekly water changes. It can cure a lot of problems. What supplements are...

My CBS caught and killed a fish?!?!?!

When I first started keeping saltwater tanks I had a CBS in an extremely overstocked 30 gallon tall. Never had a single problem. I think the CBS gets a bad rap. I concur your chromis was sick, if not already dead, and your CBS did what scavengers do.

    What are they really worth?

A year ago all ricordias in Tampa were $10 per polyp regardless of color. Now only the common green rics are $10 and all other color morphs are $15 per polyp. 1 LFS gives a 20% discount with the purchase of 10 polyps or more.
