    help building a big stand

bterry29 - Those pics are exactly what I need to see. I'm also trying to figure out how I want to frame it and started another thread for that. Do you have any final pics of the tank in the wall? Also, it looks like your stand is build behind the wall, then cut the hole in the wall, than put...

    Framing an in-wall tank

obviously I could do whatever, but has anyone ran into problems with setting it up a certain way? ie - gaps in b/t the wall and tank, anything I can't think of. anyone who has done this - did you have a way of setting things up that you found worked well for you? Anything in retrospect you...

    Framing an in-wall tank

Could anyone give any hints/advice with the framing of my new in wall tank? How should the tank be positioned relative to the wall? When I cut the hole in the wall and frame it, should I drywall the the horizontal segments that were once the "insides" of the wall and have the tank sit flush with...

    Watts Per Gallon?

Yes, that's true, but a lot of bulbs have been tested and their results with various ballasts are known. So, knowing the PAR is one thing, but how does that correlate to how much is needed?

    Watts Per Gallon?

Watt's per gallon is a useless rule . . . . it is completely meaningless. With the concensus now being that PAR is the important factor, I have not been able to find anywhere how much PAR you need per gallon or if not per gallon, then any calculation to determine how much PAR is needed. How do...

    DIY Electrical Pics

Here is a diagram of the Box... Thanks for those. Now I just need to see how you wired the insides of the boxes. That might be a little harder to draw though. Are these available as kits at the store or do you have to buy all the hardware separately and then rig it up? It wouldn't be too...

    help building a big stand

I just purchased a 60x36x25 tank and now need to get started building the stand. I am a beginner with carpentry, more specifically with the structural engineering part of it but love diy projects and building things myself. I need suggestions for an ultra sturdy stand that doesn't need any...

Squidd - tank spec follow up

I did speak with Paul. He recommended going with the v.3 of the 8-way. The drum is best balanced in this setup as it is activating flow through opposite sides at the same time. I do not think that the 4 way would give me the flow I would like. I want to have a good portion of the 8 returns...

Squidd - tank spec follow up

I'm not going to push 2200gph now. I just want to have the option later. I figure better to plan for it now and not worry later. I do want to make sure that the overflow will match the 2" and 1.5" combined rate now. The main flow for the tank is going to be through an 8 way OceansMotions with...

Squidd - tank spec follow up

RobChuck, thanks for the reply. What dimensions would I need for flow through both the 2" and 1.5" combined? How would I go about getting this calculator you are using?

Squidd - tank spec follow up

Squidd or anyone - I am finalizing my tank specs and have decided on a GC 60"x36"x25". I am having 1 overflow made in the center of the back wall. My question is what dimension should I make the overflow to handle flow through one 2" bulkhead and one 1.5" bulkhead combined. I am really only...
