    Squidd - old thread ?

I see, so your saying get two 4 ways instead of one 8 way. Why's that?

    Squidd - old thread ?

Do you think 8 jets in a 240g is too much, with some of those just blowing in the rockwork? Also, what other tank manufacturers do you or anyone recommend?

    Squidd - old thread ?

I know it's probably annoying that everyone asks for you in the thread titles, but I was reading some info you posted in an old post about flow through bulkheads... Had a follow up (posted a similar thread in reef with no answer a while ago)...I'm planning a bigger tank right now and still not...

    buying new tank

Is it worth it to do all the buffing? Are you just buffing all the time? Sorry to jack the thread.

    buying new tank

I too am getting a new tank, but am concerned about the acrylic with live rock. What happens when the rock scratches the tank on the inside if it falls (which it always does) especially when first setting up the tank? I just worry that I would regret buying a big tank only to have it scratch...

Can Seahorses go in reef tanks?

I believe they can, you just can't have any fish or aggresive inverts or corals that will eat them.

    Overflow bulkhead GPH

I was thinking overflow boxes with standpipes. An aside question...besides lower flow, is there any other disadvantage to the upper corner overflows? Why would you choose one or the other.

    Overflow bulkhead GPH

Thanks for the reply. I haven't decided yet on the exact tank, but am thinking of going with perhaps a 240 long from GC (96 x 24 x 25). I was going to go with an 8 way oceans motion and have them drill 8 holes all over the back and if possible the bottom for the outlet and one or two holes for...

    Overflow bulkhead GPH

I tried searching the board, but didn't find the answer... I'm planning a new tank and need to figure out what size bulkheads to drill for. How many GPH is each pipe diameter capable of? Raalistically only 3/4", 1", 1.5", 2". I'm not looking at doing 1/2" or 4" overflows! Thanks

    which hqi ballast?

Without a doubt, the 20k looks much better esthetically. However, to my knowledge, they are not as good for coral growth. It comes down to a balance of those two, imo. The ARO ballast is a little cheaper, but does require some wiring (not much). The Blueline is an easy prewired "plug and...

    which hqi ballast?

Just bought: Blueline E-Ballast 250w PFO 250w HQI Horizontal Pendant For total $234.80 plus shipping. (I did buy three of each though, so $704.40). They should also be giving me back $30 for a pricematch. I think that's pretty darn good for 3 250 watt e-ballasts and HQI pendants. What do...

    which hqi ballast?

What i've concluded from that thread is... 1. While electronic ballasts will save money on electricity, it sacrifices PAR. 2. No matter what ballast, go with the XM 10k, not 20k because of the much higher PAR.

    which hqi ballast?

What is the best option for a 250 watt HQI MH ballast? Is it better to now go with electronic ballasts? Which one is the best choice? Also, I do not believe they make any electronic ballasts for capable of controlling 2 or 3 bulbs, is there? I may have to just buy 2 or 3. Thanks in advance...

500 gal reef converted to 850gal reef

yep, that answered it! One follow up though...when you say "to properly run the skimmer, chiller, etc" are you just referring to running them at optimal efficiency? AREIJIN - I was originally just curious if he was normally turning over double rate he really needs and if he planned his tubing...

500 gal reef converted to 850gal reef

Or is it that you normally turn over twice the needed amount thus in a failure of one pump, you would be cut back to a normal turnover?

500 gal reef converted to 850gal reef

Steve, I'm wondering, since you have redundant pumps from the sump, with one being able to handle the work....how is it that you do not have too much water pumped back into the display thus overflowing when using both?
