65 gal on second floor? and fish list.

Sweetlips, no....They get huge. You could have a dwarf puffer but it may eat any inverts you have. Yes you could have a dwarf lionfish but once again it will eat anything it can fit in it's mouth. So pick carefully. For corals, I would recommend the lionfish because they are carnivores...

    I Can't Get Enough!!

Nope, nope nope!!! I have to remember to greet my bf first before my fish everyday......kind of makes him angry when I do that......lol. Honestly the highlight of my day is feeding my fish by hand. How sad is that??? But they are like my babies, ya know?

    Water Temp

Fish are different than inverts. I know what you mean about the safe zone.....it doesn't count for inverts. It needs to be about 1.025-26. I also use a hydrometer and always check in 3 times to get the average reading. I will buy a refractometer when I get some extra cash but for now it's what I...

    i am finally doing it

That's a little harsh......I get what you are saying but commenting on things in that way kind of just starts arguments, ya know? Maybe he just got bummed because he expected an answer sooner. A lot of people when they first get on here don't realize how long it take others to respond to their...

Do fish really go "Belly up"??

I don't think I have ever had a fish actually be upside down when it died in salt or fresh. They cuc always got it first.....but my african frogs do and boy do they stink too!!! I have one named Kermit now. So cute!! He actually croaks at me underwater. Supposedly it means they want to mate...

so why can't you clean class with windex?

UUhhh wow. You have to be either Jewish or have a lot of time on your hands....lol. Seriously, thank you for the info!! I use a wet papertowel with water and a dry one to wipe the galss off. Removes salt creep, fingerprints, everything and its almost free (except for the cost of the...

    Xenia Question

angels will go after softies like xenia more readily than other corals so watch the angel carefully once you add it. And i think xenia tends to like dirty water more than pristine so that is something to think about in regards to really clean tanks.....

    new to saltwater need info..

Apart from the money you will save by not having to buy fish you don't want and the cruelty aspect of letting the ammonia burn the fish, damsels are hard as h-ell to catch once added and they are super aggressive and will kill most new additions. The quickest way to cycle a tank is to buy fully...

    New to the Fish World

No you do not need special lighting for fish only or for softies like mushrooms even...........live rock does not need light.

    Is this coral sick?

Let me take back what I said then....i thought it was an acropora.....you should be fine with 3-4 watts of light. it was prolly shedding...

    Is this coral sick?

You only have about 3 watts per gallon so it may be bleaching because that is not really enough for SPS corals or it could have a parasite. Can you describe more specifically what the change in looks is? O if it no longer extending it's polyps?

What is this stuff and how do I get rid of it?

Scrub the rocks with a toothbrush (clean one). Vacuum the sandbed to get rid of the algae on it. Change at least 10% of your water weekly. Feed every other day. Make sure there are no dead spots where uneaten food can settle. Reduce your lighting time to 8 hrs.

Enough Light in Nano Tank for Zoas?

That is an awesome deal!! I have seen 10+ fire and ice for 35 by itself online. and zoas and mushrooms do not require high lighting. Honestly if she doesn't want to spend the extra, she could keep it as a low light tank, with mushrooms, zoas, dendrophyllias, sponges, etc. It would be very...

Talk to me guys. I need some input.

It's possible. They really are enormous fish full grown honestly. And they eat a ton of food and produce a lot of waste. Why don't you go with a small puffer like a toby or valentini? Same personality and looks but would be fine in a tank like the one you have in mind. The blue spotted is...
