If I were you I would cut back on the feedings to ATLEAST once daily, if not once every other day. That could be a part of the problem too. I feed my reef only once a week.

you need to be testing nitrite,nitrate, and ammonia. These tests are more important than phosphates...make sure you get this tested asap!

A sump isnt required, but most, like me use it to hide all the equipment on the back of your tank. Its a tank that you put under the display tank, again, to hide all equipment, and sometimes people grow macroalgae in it. In order to have a sump you have to have an overflow box and return pumps...

people dont usually just give things away

For mine I usually put the 3 biggest pieces on the bottom...my tank is 48" long...then i stack rocks in between the top so it makes 2 big tunnels on the bottom, then I just arrange the rest from there. Its really up to you. Make sure to post pictures!
