I'm getting shocked when I test my water

OK- I'm convinced. I am requesting either a store credit toward a new pump or a refund on the pump I have. I'm guessing that nobody has ever heard of the pump I have-it looks like an imitation of the Sedra pump. Obviously it dosent work like the Sedra pump. The "fish" store that I'm dealing with...

I'm getting shocked when I test my water

smalltriggers, I thought I was getting the Sedra pump with my ASM skimmer, I thought it was how they were packaged. BUT I ended up with a Sunday G500 pump-never heard of that brand before, nor can I find any info on it. It looks like a Sedra pump-dosent work like one though. I am going to try to...

I'm getting shocked when I test my water

The probe should be here tomorrow. I'll test and see, I believe its the pump, I guess the fish store will try to do anything as to not have to replace my pump for "free". I also dont have any cords hanging around the water, they are completely out of the way of the sump. I've done process of...

I'm getting shocked when I test my water

mkroher, thanks for the link to that article. I'm not an electrician, but the article made total sense to me. I've never had issues with electrical currents running through any of my aquariums-most of my tanks have had at least 2 powerheads and heaters submerged and never once have I ever...

I'm getting shocked when I test my water

it's been awhile since I've been on the forum. Just curious about this pump I have running my skimmer. I have an ASM G1 skimmer and a Sunday G500 pump running the skimmer. Thought it was my imagination, but everytime I would stick my fingers in the water I felt a shock. The skimmer pump is the...

    Spotted pj cardinals ?

I have a Pj cardinal fish-he hangs out with my 2 clownfish-he's most active when the lights are out. I have to chose between keeping him or my humu humu trigger fish when they all go into my new tank- my trigger already ate the other PJ cardinal, so I have them all separeated. :(

DIY question! It's a surprise for my husband!

Nw2salt08-dont give up on your inwall tank idea. My husband and I decided to remodel our laundry room over Christmas break-we had always talked about putting a tank through the wall-well, to make a long story short, one saturday as he knocked a hole through the wall- he asked what size opening...

    Post your system pics here

Wow, great pics everyone. I am in the process of buying a sump and skimmer for my new 80 gallon in wall tank. The skimmer -sump plumbing was a bit overwhelming till I came across this thread. I am running an external little giant pump on my sump and was trying to figure out how everything came...

    question about triggers

I have a small Humu Humu trigger- He's in a tank right now with an angel fish, a royal gramma, 2 clownfish and a box fish. I added a smaller fish to the fish family and my trigger ate him. He picks up sand in his mouth and spits it out all over my LR-he is messy. I will probably have to trade...

    TAP or RO LET'S VOTE

Hi all, just thought I would chime in and vote- I voted RO. I live in Arizona and have well water (drilled 500' down. ) I thought for sure that my water was great. I found out that it was very high in phosphate and calcium. I could never get my PH to satilize and had a bad algae problem...

need advice-new 80 gallon tank filtration question

Well, I finally got my 80 gallon tank. It's currently sitting on my counter and will soon be built into my wall. I'll post pictures soon. I have an Iwaki pump 510 GPH and got a quote from my LFS on a protein skimmer and sump-about $600.00 dollars for both-does that seem high?? I dont know the...

    *****

***** is a hit or miss thing. I will admit I've gotten some of my fish from there. I bought my first clown fish from them- he was small when I bought him- turned out to be a really good fish. I've also gotten a few other fish from them, ones that my LFS didn't have. Quarantined all of them...

Humu Humu throwing sand all around

I have a small humu humu that does the same thing. I think he purposely waits till I clean the tank and then spits sand on my LR.

    Raise the ph levels

I had my water tested last week and found out that my "well water" is causing all of my problems-my ph is ia also 7.8 and it wont go up. I've used 2 differant buffers and it remains at 7.8 My water is high in phospahates-lots of red/brown algae and my water is also very high in calcium which...

    test kits

Ive got a FOWLR tank and am using API test kit for saltwater tanks- I've used the tetra test kits also, not bad. I need a phopahte and calcium test kit, for those I will use the Salifert test kits, those are expensive, but worth it.

BIGGEST mistake you've made in the hobby

Yep keebler, I second that-I've switched from IO salt-was leaving a white residue on everything-and I was also using an old hydrometer from about 8 years ago-had my water tested the other day-salt was too high 1.025 for a FOWLR tank. And I cycled my first tank with 2 cute damsels that my kids...

    Substrate question!!

Just my 2cents worth- I was curious and set up a small tank with the white sugar sand and one with the regular sand-the white sand is beautiful, but it showed everything- and looked dirty within a matter of days. I ended up dumping it out and starting over with regular sand.

    A beginner's confusion!

Hi MUT, as for equipment- I dont have a protein skimmer, I just run a HOB filter for a 30 gallon tank-I run it with 2 sponges in it and the bio beads-live rock will definitely help with your biological filtration once its established.( I am also a sort of a newbie- I had a SW tank about 9 years...

    A beginner's confusion!

I started out with a 10 gallon and now all of my fish are in a 20gallon, long tank. I have only the basics on my tank-hob filter, made for a 30 gallon tank-a strip light, glass cover, heater, power head for water movement and about 15 pounds of live rock(started out with 10 pounds of rock in my...
