Cycling a tank without using a damsel

OOOps, the tank is a 20 gallon-I have about 6 cocktail shrimp in the bag-too many-I'm cycling this tank for my fish that are in my 10 gallon tank-they've outgrown their living quarters. I'm actually planning on having a 75 gallon built into my wall-things got put on hold, so now I've got to move...

Thanks for the info Delta-should I run carbon through the filter after I take the shrimp out?? right now I'm just running a HOB filter with 2 sponges in it. It's a small tank. The water is also a bit cloudy right now. What about live rock, should I get some and add it to the tank now and use...

Cycling a tank without using a damsel

I've read how to do this before on this forum, but I'm having a problem using the "quick" search link. Here's my question-I'm cycling a tank using some shrimp from my local grocery store-they are hanging in my tank inside of a mesh bag. It's been 24 hours, my ammonia is up-BUT my tanks stinks...

    could this be lymphocystis?

I'm working on getting a picture, most of them are coming out blurry. The growth almost looks like a small brownish cottonball on the lower side of his mouth. He still manages to eat though.

I have a lemonpeel angel fish-these are his symptoms: he has a cyst like growth on his mouth, its been there for almost 3 weeks, as of today there are red blood looking or raw spots around his mouth, it looks like these spots might be from rubbing his mouth on the rocks?? he eats fine and dosent...

drilling a tank for a canister filter

I am ordering a tank off of a website and having it custom drilled.(It's acrylic). My question is I have an Ocean Clear canister filter and a water pump. Am I stuck with drilling the bottom of the tank? Or am I better off selling the filter and going with and overflow built in? I've always had...

    question about all-in-one aquarium systems

What about the all- in-one systems for 75-90 gallon. I think one system is called a uniquarium or aquasytem?? One is a wet/dry type filtration system, I'm not sure what the other one is. I'm sure its something similar. I have a canister filter right now with a water pump- (still in the box) I'm...

    question about all-in-one aquarium systems

Just out of curiosity-I've been surfing the web and came across acrylic aquariums that have a built in filtration unit on the back-no drilling ,no hang on the back filters. From what I've read the tank operates with a powerhead. Does anyone have an opinion on these types of tanks?? These...

Hi Brenda, and welcome to the forum. I'm sort of a newbie. I did a FO salt water tank about 9 years ago. It was a 125, had to sell all of it 'cause I moved. Well here I am again. I've got my 10 gallon "starter" tank set up. It's my sons old freshwater tank. You had mentioned you were concerned...

is pvc cement ok to use

at least now I know that there are options out there. I do have the white PVC tubes hanging in my tank-its my starter 10 gal. tank. When I set up my larger tank-hopefully by the end of summer- I'll have somewhat of an idea of how it should be plumbed. I will probably end up having a tank custom...

pro's and con's of sand and crushed coral

I have CC in my tank right now. My ph stays about 8.0 to 8.2. I had a tank about 8 years ago and used colored freshwater fish tank gravel as the substrate, my ph was always 8.3. So, why such a differance now?? just curious as to why I cant get my ph over 8.2 now.

    Live Rock

Filtration, and it looks way better than the fake corals. I just added LR to my fish tank about 3 weeks ago. I've got a lot of really nice colors coming out on it, and my fish love to hide in the caves and crevices it has.

    Carbon Removal???

I just removed the carbon from my fish tank also. My very trustworthy LFS said that it could cause HLLE, which my lemonpeel angel fish has around his face. I just returned to the hobby after 8 years, always used carbon-I wont anymore. My LFS told me to use it only as needed and only to clear up...
