    Xenia

Mine did nothing low. When they got high in moderate current, they responded immediately and are growing like weeds.

    Opinions!!!

There is probably less science and more opinions. However, most of those who have been successful have valid opinions because it works for them. If you haven't already added them, here are a couple of links for you: http://rshimek.com/ http://biogeek.ucdavis.edu Glad to see you are spending so...

    Clownfish won't eat

You already know that it depends on the individual fish, but since they are young, it shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes it happens. The 30 day rule.

    Feeding corals with baster?

I seem to get better control with a plastic baster or an eye dropper. Again, as mentioned, feed it in the water column near the coral and let the current carry it to the coral.

    O2 levels and canister filters?

You don't mention the size of the tank, but I have a Fluval 404 and a Maxijet 1200 pointing to the surface on opposite sides of the tank in a 75. There is another Maxijet 1200 pointing at the surface on the same side as the cannister filter output on a wavamaker, along with two lower level...

    powerhead suction cups

I've replaced the little tiny ones that come with powerheads like powersweeps with the larger ones that come with Maxijets. If you can use the clips, you are better off. The intake of the powerhead should either have a protective screen or a sponge filter attached to it to protect the fish...

    Environmentally sound hobbist?

Hi Arkman I abandoned the idea of a reef tank 10 or 12 years ago because of articles on the same topic, along with talk of banning the import and sale of those very items in this country. Unfortunately, I don't have links, but the following should make you feel somewhat better. 1. Studies have...

    Mini Reef Setup

Concur with j21kickster. I have a prizm skimmer that I don't use because, well, it sucks. I put it on the 10 for about a month and what it removed wasn't worth the electricity that it consumed.

    Optimum phosphate values?

I have the Salifert and my readings are non-detectable. However, I also have their dissolved oxygen test and the reading is also non-detectable. 900 to 1600 gph in a 75 and a 0 dissolved oxygen reading. Hmmm. My phosphate levels must really be high.

    A quick tomato clown question!!

I put one in last October that was about an inch long. It is now approaching three inches. That doesn't necessarily mean you're doing anything wrong and I'm doing anything right.

    Reef safe camelback?

They ate my yellow polyps before I removed the little $%@#%@. I can't speak for any other corals as they were gone before they got any farther. The "reef safe" status on them at SWF.com is listed as "questionable."

Based on the description, it does sound like cyano.

2weeks... QT cycling... Ammonia still spiking.

First, nothing that you did was wrong. It is just a longer way to get a QT tank in place. Generally the necessity of a hospital tank is an unexpected need to treat for disease. Since you plan on using this as a permanent setup, you have multiple options at this point. 1. By all means, remove...

2weeks... QT cycling... Ammonia still spiking.

The filter pad would be seeded with bacteria contained in the water from the existing tank. Here is an article on setting up a QT tank. They recommend putting the sponge that will be used in the filter into the main tank or sump for a week or two to seed the sponge so that the tank doesn't...

2weeks... QT cycling... Ammonia still spiking.

You didn't stipulate the pre or post mortum condition of the shrimp :) . Now that you've specified that it is dead, it makes it a little easier. Is the dead shrimp still decaying? If so, that is the cause of the level. By adding the shrimp to cycle, you most likely lost any benefit that would...

2weeks... QT cycling... Ammonia still spiking.

Any additives that may be causing a false reading? Any live rock added that wasn't fully cured? Bare bottom or sand/gravel, and if so, did you add some from your existing setup? Overfeeding the shrimp? How long has the reading been "that high" if the tank was only setup two weeks ago...

    Royal Gramma needs catchen!!-Pics

Royal grammas are cute, but basically dumb. Most will go into a rock. Remove the rock with the fish still in it. Put some saltwater from the tank into a bucket and shake the rock a little. The fish will leave the rock and go into the bucket. Otherwise, same advise as the others. Take the...

    96watts of lighting

Or a 96 watt powerquad. The question is what do you plan on putting in it that would need that much light? I have a 10 gallon nano with two 32 watt pcs on it. It's a homemade canopy and I wouldn't have any problem getting a third in it, but nothing that I keep in it or plan to keep it in...

    amphipod breeding kit-help

Direct from the site: You can create your own amphipod farm by floating one of these amphipod mats under low light in a well-aerated sump, refugium or dedicated 10-gallon breeding tank. Seed it with amphipod specimens which we provide. A twice-weekly addition of flake food (just a pinch!)...
